HP ammo should be Hollow Point

Currently, for 7.62, .44, and 9mm ammo there exists 3 ammo types:

- Standard, what you find the most of, does normal damage, is used most of the time.

- HighPower (HP), really only get this from traders and crafting, does only 3 extra damage, and is rarely used.

- Armor Piercing (AP), again you really only get this from traders and crafting, does extra damage and 50% armor penetration.

AP is really the only thing worth spending the extra dukes or materials on.

SUGGESTION:

Change the HP ammo to HollowPoint instead, give it the same 6 damage increase as AP, but make it 50% more effective against UNarmored targets.
(If needed for balancing the damage to armored targets could be further decreased beyond that of normal.)

This would bring a lot better balance to the ammunitions and make it worthwhile to actually spend the supplies to get HollowPoints!

My buddy wanted me to add to this and suggest along with this, perhaps changing up the recipes a little bit on the ammos too. After all, robotic turrets have normal and AP, with the AP ammo requiring iron.

Perhaps when doing BULK crafting of HP ammo, it requires iron ingots, and when doing AP it requires Steel ingots.

When doing individual bullets, it just costs x amount of scrap iron.

Both ways to differentiate the costs according to function.

Ammo just needs an improvement overall. Nothing says "HiPower" like a measly 3 more points of damage, right?

That’s why I suggest making it HollowPoint, with extra damage to unarmored targets.

When shooting an armored enemy like the soldier zed, with normal ammo and with AP ammo, the difference is clear as day.
The same should be done with HP.

Against normal zed it would make a big difference, but not be very effective against armored targets.

After all, it costs more to make, and requires a special book to do so. It should be worth it.

Also, adding this variety would give players a reason to switch between ammo types, which currently really only happens on bows from what I’ve seen.

If I remember right, the idea was that it was supposed to be like Hollow Point before they changed it to HiPower in A20. It didn't really work, so they decided a 3 damage difference was better.

Well, hopefully it’s something they revisit, because it’s currently not worth crafting or buying at all.

With AP being both more effective and able to punch through multiple targets, I would think HP would stop at a single enemy but just have a much higher damage number.
