PC 7 Days Leveling Progression

Howdy! I'm hopping on the new 7 days after spending quite a few hours on the unupdated console version and like most of the changes but am a little let down by no Leveling by Doing or Making that was in the earlier version. Are there any plans to update this system or given an option of progression? Or are we stuck to simply magazines and perks?

This was one of the perks of 7 days which kept me coming back so to see it gone is a little disappointing.

The old system was just a place holder that came free with the engine used while they were developing the system we have now. I’m extremely happy that it is gone as spam crafting was not fun for me at all. But under this new system you can still spam craft if you enjoy it and will get experience so still has leveling by doing and making. This new system combines learning by doing and learning by gaining knowledge from studying which at least to me is better and makes more sense.

I understand your preference and for some things that would be based around knowledge I agree, however when it comes to things such as crafting, in my opinion you can LBD makes so much more sense as you can look at how to do something as much as you want but until you get practice doing it it won't be any better.

I will adjust to the new system though I do miss seeing stats go up based on how much you did something, even when it comes to things such as running, physical activity, etc.

Yep pretty much this. From the day it appeared the developers were discussing the system that they really wanted to implement. Which even then is extremely close to the system that exists now.

LBD made less sense in more skills than there were skills it made sense in. And in the latter, it was too easy to just exploit the system to become an absolute master in a very short period of time with a wee bit of grinding. Completely dismissing the intended struggle within the game, and creating an insurmountable struggle in other aspects that wasn't needed or balanced at all.

I kinda felt the same way as you did before, I didn't really know how I felt about some of the new changes at first. And then after playing and spending some time with the new Console Edition for the last few weeks, I actually really like it now and I'll explain why. Yes, the early game is much more slower and challenging when first starting out, especially with the changes to how you obtain water now.

With that said, the changes to water makes it feel so much more rewarding once you get a steady source of fresh water coming in daily. Also, the new learn by looting/reading system gives you more of an incentive to go out and explore, complete quests and loot random POI's much more than before because of needing books and magazines.

On the old Console version where it had the learn by doing system, it just didn't feel as rewarding to me in my honest opinion, you could just sit there inside your base and spam craft hundreds of stone axes which to me just wasn't very fun at all. Now when you find a good book or magazine you been looking for so you can unlock the forge or so you can craft a cement mixer to start making concrete, it feels 10x times more rewarding now.

And lastly, not only does it make certain aspects to the game feel more rewarding, but it also gives the game legs to where you ain't OP by Day 40 to the point where you don't need to do much of anything anymore. I personally think this is a good thing for the game in general because, it helps to extend the early, mid, and late game stages.
