Just wondering I have 2 friends, 2 on PS5 and me on PC.

1st is it possible for us all to play together in 1.0?

2nd if I have server side mods can they join my server?

With Cross-platform coming, what can we expect for mod support? Now before everyone goes off.. I've seen the road map we are all aware of the Steam Workshop in the works down the road for full support of mods.

I'm not to sure how that would work for console players. unless they work some magic with Steam to Sony to Microsoft. But currently if I'm not mistaken, we're dealing with .xml & .config modifications for pc users. Once cross play is released, are console users going to have the ability to join us pc folks & have access to servers with custom .xml & .config files. I do see that users are having some type of issue with storage/data on console with limited saves, or specific generation of consoles can only run X size maps.

Basically the question is, if I'm hosting a 7D2D server, cross-play active 8-10k map with custom .xml - .config can my console squad play with me. Or do I need to continue to roast them for not buying a PC.

* If this is already a topic somewhere else, I apologize in advance please lock or delete and I will post where necessary..

Thankyou,

OB21.

Steam Workshop wouldn't apply to consoles or Gamepass so that doesn't affect mods for consoles in any way (Just a FYI in case people are not aware).

We don't know at this stage as TFP haven't discussed much about modding support for consoles.  The biggest issue is Sony as they have very strict guidelines when it comes to modding the game.  Some game developers have mod support for PS games (two examples are Bethesda and Giant), but in order for those to be approved by Sony, those game developers have to evaluate and approve the mods (and they are distributed by the game developers).  Sony doesn't allow 3rd party mods for any games played on the PS.

Server side mods only might be possible because they are not modifying the client software, just the server side software.  At the very least, I am hoping that that capability will be available for xml sever side mods so console players can have that option.

I could see xml mods being an option for console, but I would be real surprised if anything more than that is offered. One, tons of PC mods run custom code and I don't think that will be allowed on console from what I've heard, and two, consoles are struggling to handle the base game as is, adding more content like items and whatnot would only make it run worse.

I'm hoping they do something similar to skyrim with mods on console.
This is a fully Destructible Voxel game. It requires a LOT more processing than Skyrim.

The current console hardware is barely capable of supporting the Vanilla client, and that is already with forced limitations on video options and maps.

Even if you limited it to "server-side" mods only, there are a large number of them that would quickly push past the capabilities of the console hardware.

Add to this that I do not see Sony or Microsoft approving mods without a definite platform for them, and TFP's only goal is to eventually add Steam Workshop support. Which is Steam only. It would exclude even the MS Store version on PC.  I suggested switching to something more like CurseForge since that will easily support all platforms, but was basically shot down.

Note that Steam Workshop support isn't planned until Q4 2025. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't expect it before Q1 2027 given the current pace of development releases. We're already looking at nearly a 6-month delay on the Q4 2024 update.
