FPS Lag until I stream on discord - absolute head scratcher

I've recently returned to 7 Days to Die. I likely haven't played since Alpha 19, so I was keen to dive back in. On to my issue:

Whether I play single player, or multi player, I get crippling FPS lag/rubber banding/stuttering commonly when I'm near to a trader. It can happen in other areas, but certainly hits me more when I'm playing in multi player. Now I've tried the common things suggested such as v-sync or dynamic mesh to no avail.

However I have found a "solution" that boggles my mind: as soon as I stream to a friend on discord, all of the lag vanishes entirely and I'm left with a silky smooth gameplay experience. Now I'd rather not bother everyone and all on my friend's list when I want to play some SP, but I'm lost as to what's causing this besides something in the memory not being released until there's extra stress on the system?

For reference I'm running:
Windows 11 Pro
32GB Ram
i7-13700K
Nvidia RTX 4080 - drivers are up to date, but this occurred several weeks ago on older driver sets as well.

Cheers!

I'd be interested in seeing a log file too. Also, was your computer made by a company? I ask because a lot of the programs that come with pre-builts often cause issues.

https://pastebin.com/nZR7VWfq Here's the log! I started a new game with EAC turned off. It was smooth until I approached the trader, then I encountered some very minor stutters that may have just been blocks loading... however as soon as I opened the doors to the trader's compound the lag hit me badly. I exited shortly after. From experience it seems to persist after that point unless I begin streaming, as mentioned in my original post.

All game files were successfully validated. Forgot to mention that.

I wonder if this is an Intel E-Core issue, it kind of sounds like it due to the behavior you mentioned, maybe switching to Discord forces the game to move to another core. There seems to be various ways to get around this, but I did find someone made a tool to help out with it too, if you want to take a look:

Take control of your Intel CPU's P-Cores and E-Cores with CoreDirector software | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com)

From what I've been gathering, the whole E-Core thing is a large nightmare.

I think you've cracked it. Having downloaded CoreDirector and forcing it to gate keep 7DTD from my E-cores it's now silky smooth. I've only had time to give it a short test, but I'll update this thread very soon with a definitive. Seems like that's fixed it, so thanks again!

Sweet! Glad that worked, you're welcome. It's an unfortunate mess that Intel created with this release, I honestly took a stab in the dark there but those sort of complaints are widespread across many games/programs... Intel is kind of telling everyone tough luck fix it yourselves lol. I'll poke internally and see if it's something Unity would have to/be able to fix. Keep an eye out for bios updates.

Heya @Chromatism just checking in! I hope that means you're able to have fun now :D

Either way, thanks for responding the result of using that program, good knowledge to have until Intel/Microsoft gets it squared away to help people out in the future with these new CPU's

Hello! Apologies. I meant to update this sooner. I had a good, long session yesterday evening with absolutely no issues at all. I'm very comfortable saying that CoreDirector is an excellent solution until Intel/Microsoft get things squared away. Many thanks to you.

No worries! I figured that meant it worked well and you're having fun :) You're welcome -- super glad we were able to get a solution for ya, even if it's just a bandaid for now. I'd keep this tool handy for other intensive applications/games, it's pretty wide-spread.
