PC Zombies occasionally just die and slowly sink to the ground?

I've had a few instances where zombies that are pursuing me (I think all have been from sleeper spawns) suddenly just die and then slowly sink to the ground (no ragdoll). I haven't damaged them, nor do I think they have taken damage from any environmental sources (mines, falling, etc.).

It's only happened a handful of times, and doesn't seem to be repeatable (or exploitable).

Has anyone else seen this?

I've seen videos but I've never had it happen to me personally.

A few alphas ago it was revealed that zombies had a 'time to live' value to clear them out during and after horde nights. Not sure if that mechanic is still in place.

It happened in previous alphas as well (they turned into a gore block).

Typical despawn.

random unused world zombies can and do die from old age...

Okay, but at least once these were zombies that were actively pursuing me out of a POI. They shouldn't be despawning mid-pursuit.

But they aren't rotten enough for that yet.

Yeah, I have seen this happen with both random world zombies and POI ones. It's weird lol. One even dropped a loot bag
