PC Zombies Digging Near Base

I have a 2 story building that I use to keep my chem station, table saw, forge, workbench, chests, etc... (second floor of course)

I also have a small farm setup outside.

A short distance from that, I have a fort with concrete blocks / spikes, and in some areas the walls are 2 thick. I use that for horde nights, but I've contemplated moving some things over there.

I thought it would be smart to dig a tunnel several blocks deep from my house to my fort. I used a good strong hatch and was starting to move my way out there. Obtained a bunch of stone, iron, etc...

The problem is that zombies dug straight down to my tunnel. So now I feel like I have another possible entryway to my house for zombies to try (and possibly another route into my fort).

Possible solutions are to fill the zombie hole and my tunnel, restore from backup before I dug the tunnel (not ideal because I would lose a lot of resources most likely), or relocate to another nearby building. Not sure if I need to just completely relocate and rebuild a new fort.

Luckily I did not get very far, so I'm not sure if zombies would use that as a path to get to my fort.

I am on day 94.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

"several" doesn't cut it. Whenever zombies sense you and you are lower than them they might dig. For short distances a tunnel is not advisable, for longer distances you make a tunnel on bedrock and it works. But you should never use the tunnel on bloodmoon.

Stealth perk helps a lot if you make tunnels higher up than bedrock
