EDIT:  Sorry Guys!  When I said scrap I didn't mean delete.  I just mean temporarily (or maybe permanently) work on something else and eventually forget this even exists.  I never truly delete a project on purpose, just abandoned and forgotten.

I have no idea why, but I was considering abandoning my current project and starting a new one.  (I do this too much.)  So, I know most of you are politely supportive which is awesome.  But I'm also looking for the nit-picking haters for input as well.

If you guys want to see this finished, let me know.  If not, tell me why it sucks.  Thanks  Here's some pics in the editor.

(And I have yet to think of a reason why someone would build a bridge over this small lake but there it is)

Considering it looks basically finished, I don't see any reason not to complete it.  I am not sure what you feel still needs done to it, but you've clearly put in a lot of work on it already, so it doesn't seem like it would be a good option to scrap it.  If you just want a break from it, set it aside and come back to it later.  No need to get rid of all that work.

Looks very interesting in its current state.  I think you should save it at the very least even if you don't decide to release it to the public.  You may get inspiration later to finish it and/or use it as inspiration / save time in a future build.

Thank you!!!  To me, it looks like a skeleton lol.  Here's an example of one thing I needed to do before I would ever consider sharing it.  I was having a hard time with the supports.  They were just not... okay.  Current alter alteration of support pillars.  This change is making me feel a bit better about it.  It's still not quite right though.  I'm not sure what else needs to be done either, I'm just 100% sure it's not done yet.   And on the top, maybe these fence post need to be bricks or something.  Oh yeah!  I also need to offset those jail cell door if I wanna keep them.  Then I have to add deco / trim blocks / destroyed blocks for some more detail.   Then I have to go over the entire terrain again with the terrain editor too.  Then I need to add the nature and roads around it once I decide the bridge and terrain is ready.image.pngimage.png

Thanks!  Don't worry,  I won't delete it.  It may be forgotten if I set it aside though.

I think @Riamus comment has convinced me the most I should complete it.  With the statement of it looks basically completed.

I would like to finish it to show everyone the difference between basically completed, and what I consider, it's not done but ready for release versions.

Here's a couple screenshots of my minor progress today.

Brick floor on support beams changed to concrete floor (for realism and logic)

Spikes traps added to bridge ends (part of a story to image what happened here)

Crashed car in the middle of the bridge which caused damage to the structure and plowed through the spikes at the other end.

-Glass deco around car on ground

-The missing/broken pieces of the bridge are at the bottom of the water.

-Trellis flooring changed to wood

Added trash cans to each end of the bridge.

Added Fencing to pedestrian walkway.

Lot of minor texture edits.

Here's the little bit of progress I made today.

Looks good.  Glad I could convince you to continue... even if my comment that was intended to be a compliment may feel more like incentive to show that what you create can look a lot better than what I might consider good.  Heh.  :D

Thank you.  Lol, I did feel the compliment and appreciate it!!  It just never seems to look as good to me as it seems for other people.  I always feel like it's missing something. Always.  Even in my most complete house the Clopex Estate.  I kind of want to go through the interior wall cubes with wood plate double to better simulate hollow drywall.  (The player can fit in between those as well, so they could walk in the walls.)

No intention to imply insult to yours or anyone prefabs.  You can make stuff just as good or even way better than me. I'm sure of it.  It just take time, a lot of time.  I probably spent 10x longer on prefabs than most people with little noticeable to show for it if you come across one randomly on a server.  It might be good, but that's not good enough lol.  I want to make amazing memorable prefab that make you stop in awe on the battlefield to admire it full aware you're probably going to get snipped :)

I'm actually making a guide right now showing what little I do to create the detailed prefabs I like to make.  But to make it easier to write.  I have loaded up abandoned house 01 and have started making edits to it as if I was nit picking my own creation.

Just finished the first edit.  Terrain outside.

I need to remove that dead tree.  It doesn't live there.

I don't want to discourage people at all.  I want to make nice stuff for people and help them do the same if I can.  I don't have a relevant image for 7 Days to Die.  But here is what is 2 years of building (and abandoning) hundreds of project can do for a builders' skill and imagination.  This is my ship from Empyrion Galactic Survival.  But it does shows all it takes it time.  Can't wait to make one of these comparison images for 7 Days to Die with the Clopex Estate.

Yeah, the rougher terrain looks more natural.  Unfortunately, it could end up making it stand out poorly against the surrounding POI/tiles since those won't have the same style of terrain unless you improved all of them.  :)

I made one POI (and a small bear den, which doesn't really count) and then gave up on it.  The POI Editor is just a pain to use and I didn't want to spend so much time on it.  I have updated that POI a few times now and it looks nice.  It's just a recreation of the house of the person I usually play the game with and it's pretty accurate, overall.  But it's also nothing special.  I wouldn't have the patience to do anything really intricate.  Not with this POI Editor, anyhow.

I felt the exact same way about the editor when I first tried to use it.  I was really annoyed that virtually every single command was different than every other editor that all seem to have very similar controls to each other.  And not only the commands, they way the editor works.  It took me many times coming back to it before I finally gave up and suffered though a 101 tutorial.

I like this guys' tutorial series.

As far as it standing out.  I think it will be fine, we'll see.  And if I have fun doing this, I just might edit them all lol.

The bear den most definitely counts!  And it's a great idea since outdoor POIs are far less common.  That something that could possibly be used as an entrance to the cave project.  (Not mine) https://sites.google.com/view/caveprefabguideline/cave-prefab-guideline

I find replication is the hardest thing to do.  So if you replicated your friends house well enough people can recognize it.  That's amazing!!   if I could do that, I would try to recreate all the houses on my block.  If I wanted to go crazy.  If you live in a new neighborhood with cookie cutter built houses, you could probably find their floor plans too.

I do understand how unintuitive an anti-user friendly the editor can be sometimes.  So, if you ever wanna give it another shot.  Feel free to add me on discord and ask 'stupid' questions you would never ask in front of thousand of people.  I'll do my best to help you without making you feel like you asked a dumb question.  The hardest part for me was training my hands to remember I'm not in Space Engineers or Empyrion, so I had to stop editing in those for a while and only do this until my brain remembered it doesn't work the same.

And as far as patience go, it does help.  But, I usually have about 3-5 active projects at the same time.  So if you get tired of working on one, you can do another and come back to it.  No need to do the entire thing in one go.  Sometimes I'll load one up, add window sills, or just texture a single room, save, and play another game.

Getting close to alpha release version.  Here's an update

Might be a while.  Since I changed the name to rwg_tile_gateway_straight_lakepeakbridge_svarii I can't get it to spawn in the RWG.  Not sure why not or how to quickly fix it.

Currently POI (still local prefab, hasn't been moved to my mods folder yet.)  But in the end, I plan to save it as a straight gateway tile.

Another possibility would be to work with the Teragon folks and add it as a bridge for their rivers. I think they do that by defining end pieces and then a repetitive span.

That's great to know about!  I'm sure I just did the XML wrong as I barley know what I'm doing.

I have to get a submission into the the Cave project first before I contact another project lol.  (I'm slow)

I suspect if you gave them the bridge POI they'd carve it up into the necessary pieces.

Heh.  That particular bridge would be challenging to use with Teragon.  Although the middle sections do (mostly) repeat, the ends are somewhat too long from the look of it.

Just for reference regarding bridges and Teragon:

  • Currently Teragon only supports a single bridge type on a map (unless you're creating some roads while one bridge is installed, then creating more roads with a different one installed, which is technically possible).  That bridge is the one that comes with Teragon.
  • If you want to use a different bridge instead of the Teragon bridge, you would need to have 2 sections of bridge and 4 sizes of pillars that are the same size as the Teragon bridge POIs and call them the same thing as the Teragon bridge POI, replacing those with yours.
  • Bridge sections are:

The ends of the bridge, which are the same POI just rotated.
  • The middle of the bridge, which is a POI that will repeat to get the correct length of bridge for the span of water.
  • 4 pillar sections that are 1m, 2m, 4m, and 5m tall that will repeat to get the correct elevation for the bridge.

[*]In the future, Teragon will likely allow you to use custom bridges instead of only one bridge, but you will still need to have the correct pieces and sizes.

That's an awesome project!  I'll definitely keep the specs in mind when I decide to make a bridge for it.  The game does need more bridges and the Teragon project sounds like a great start!

Update on the bridge.  Finally, after many many RWG, I finally got it to spawn!!!  It's now 200x200 straight gateway tile.

I just need to fix the localization.  Edit up all the weird terrain, flatten the road.  Might even have it posted tonight!  (Maybe)

I lined up my roadexits and made them 10 blocks wide why is it off-center?
