We had some zombies dig an underground network last blood moon.... the tunnels stretched forever, in every direction! If we missed one, will they continue to just dig forever? Or will the de-spawn or something at some point?
They time out and die after a few minutes. They also shouldn't just dig and dig, they're trying to get to a player. If you're not in the area, they shouldn't dig too much.
Still a good idea to fill whatever they dug out, less surprises that way.
I have had them stuck in to the side of the mole hill I built a base on during a blood moon. When the sun came up it surprised me as I was running down the hill. Killed it and filled the hole with spikes.
