PC Why is dynamite so much better than TNT?

I tried to blow up a garage door with TNT. I needed 6 or 7 of them to destroy the wooden garage door block with 200 HP. What? TNT is made to destroy blocks, so why does it give so little damage to blocks? I used TNT to break in into buildings or for mining. Can't use it for that anymore.

On the other hand, a throwable dynamite stick will destroy the garage door instantly. It's way more powerful than the placeable TNT. Why? Is this intended or a bug?

I noticed this too when blast tunneling, which is now faster than using an auger.
