Why does F1/cm invalidate all quest rewards?

I had a motorcycle completely disappear during a recent game. Annoyed, I entered F1/cm mode and gave myself a motorcycle.

But now, I can't complete any accomplishments. The rewards/accomplishments tasks no longer work.

I can understand that someone could give themselves all the rewards and level up instantly using the cm menu. But why care? If someone wants to play that way, who cares?

Are single player folks being punished for multiplayer situations?

I am good with achievements not being available in CM and I don't believe anyone is being punished.

Turn off CM and restart the game, and collect accomplishments.

After a reread I am confused. Are you taking about Steam Achievements (accomplishments) or are you talking about Trader quests/rewards?

If I recall correctly, being in CM or DM changes gameplay, since it's too easy for you to just spawn in whatever you need to complete challenges/quests/whatever. It's been this way for as long as I can remember.

If you activate the creative menu at all then you can no longer earn Steam achievements with that save.

You can start a new game and use that one to earn Steam achievements if you wish to go for those.

Trader rewards, quest rewards, and challenge rewards are unaffected by creative mode.

Actually, unless it's been changed, certain challenges are disabled while CM is enabled (possible also DM), but if you disable it again, they'll start working again. It's been a while since I've looked, but I believe it was the ones to stay alive for a certain amount of time. I think there was one or two others as well. But that's only while those are enabled.

To the OP, a lot of game disable Steam achievements when you use some form of option that can greatly change gameplay, potentially making getting those achievements extremely easy. Even if you later disable CM or DM, you could already have given yourself everything needed to easily complete some achievements. So achievements are only available when not using CM/DM. I don't think there is any problem with that. Just play the game without using those when you want to work on the achievements. But if you are referring to trader quest rewards like your subject name suggests, then those are not disabled.

Also, vehicles rarely disappear entirely. If they aren't where they used to be, you probably crashed or closed the game incorrectly (such as using Alt-F4) and so it is back where it was the last time the position was saved. Just retrace your path backwards and you'll find it. You can also look at the most recent log file and at the bottom of it, you'll see the last coordinates for all vehicles. Just go there and you'll find it.

It may not be pertinent (and I may be misremember) but anecdotally, I didn't experience that. Granted it was a long time ago but with CM on and then back off, several achievements kept accumulating in the current save (but maybe not all).

@Roland
There is potentially 1 more hole in the process.
If they want it to be more accurate, then any game
played in modded category would have to be disqualified.

Two examples: a lot of the people with kill sheets, say they
got it during the use of specific mods.

For me The polar bare club with 5.2% player achievement, definitely
came from me modding the snow biome, and the wind speed.
Either V1.2 or V1.4 when I was trying to preconfig for the Storms Brewing
Release.

I never would have thought about it if you had not posted the above
response.

I received all the player kill achievements from playing an overhaul with NPCs. There was no PvP involved.

The Polar Bear achievement Pre 1.0, all a player had to do was take off all clothing and go under water in the winter biome (for some period of time?). It's was not hard. It's just obscure and unlikely to happen in a normal play through, unless you are clued in to the requirement.

That was my point, spawned from the back and forth regarding that achievement in dev diary.

Mine was achieved Feb 19 2025. When i turned the wind up to 100 in the snow, during a modding test.
