PC What POI do you loot first when entering a new town or city and why?

Bookstore - books.
Hardware store - tool parts and tools.
Gun store - guns and ammo.
Houses I know have a lot of bookcases.

I don't rob clothing stores often; it's easier to make fabric out of cotton.

First town would be houses cause need pot and consumables. After that any POIs that I didn’t visit in the last town/city either by visiting the trader to see what they have on offer or driving around until I see a place that makes me go oh that looks interesting because that’s what I find fun.

To be fair I do play on easy peasy mode, occasionally I like a nice relaxing apocalypse so shoot me but please don’t like I said relaxing, which really does allow me to do what I want when I want.

 I'm like that too.

Tier 1 / Tier 2 residential POIs -cooking pot, food / water supplies, basic materials, and starting base

New towns after start, I based the POIs on what I need at that moment:

  • Base building supplies
  • Weapons
  • POIs with a lot of good items to salvaged (like the Horder POI)

I never prioritize bookstores and homes with a lot of bookcases.  I will eventually get to them, but I like unlocking things naturally - I find I have less stress when I am not hyper focus unlocking crafting recipes / tiers

Usually whatever is first or whatever my quest is for if I start with quests.  Though if I focus on anything specific, it is the first house I come across so I can get a pot.

I don't spend time worrying about magazines.  There isn't much reason to rush them.  I'll grab mailboxes as I drive between POI, and if I happen to come across a crack-a-book, I'll loot it.  But I don't go searching for that.

I feel the same.  Now when i spot a book store i will stop and read everything, everytime.  But you get magazines fast enough without making them a priority.

This varies depending on how far into the game I am. In the early to mid-game, I usually loot the Trader first, as I usually discover new towns via the open new trade route quest. Later in the game, a T4 or T5 quest usually dictates which POI I loot first.

Trader!

Cause, well no Zs.
Ok, yeah.  I do almost always hit the trader before anywhere else and usually loot it at the same time.  Unless I don't see the trader right away because of where I enter a town.

It depends on the game time line.

Early game looking for Forge Ahead and Vehicle magazines I am hitting up any POI with a mixer or workstation and garages.  Additionally any other POI I know where to relatively easily cheese the loot from.

Mid game looking for specific POIs that support filling important gaps in the crafting tree. Additionally any other POI I know where to relatively easily cheese the loot from.

Late game whatever takes my fancy.

I pick the default map for solo games, so there's plenty of crap in the structure I spawn near and the trader the tutorial points you towards ( plenty of building materials and forging ahead magazines  ).

Fetch and clearing missions, so I can clean the place out before clicking the "!" ( restocks everything ). These usually yield enough materials to build my cave/hut, and magazines to start cooking.

First two or three days to build/repair thanks to the str-tree, then the rest of the first week to prepare for the bloodmoon.

On day 8, I'm bee-lining to the nearest house with a parked vehicle since family homes usually have more stuff. As for stores, I need to pick a day just for them since they usually have hidden stashes, sleepers, etc.

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS

Early game, anything with lots of magazines.  Once I've got Q6 steel tools, I'd rather not bother looting anymore...which means I only loot things with lots of magazines, because the only reason I'm looting is to be able to craft better items for horde night.

Bookstores, libraries, any POI that has significant books amount like that one large Cathedral
