What is this? It's the last thing you had equipped, but is there a hot key to switch? What is this trying to tell me?

Quick swap, as far as I'm aware. They talked about it briefly in the first dev stream. It appears on any last toolbelt item you used and you should be able to use mouse button 5 (I think) to quickly swap back to it. Of course, you can always use the corresponding number on your keyboard, but having a quick swap tide to a mouse button is arguably faster.

The only problem is it always changes to the last item, so it's a great way to bounce between two items, but there is no way to lock it if you want to have a way to quick swap to the same item every time.

I really hope they put in a setting to disable it entirely so the icon stops hopping around. I tried to just unbind both the mkb and the controller quickswap keys but no dice yet. For me it's incredibly annoying and an absolutely useless feature. If I'm trying to quickly swap to another item, I'm going to use the already much better feature called the 1-9 keys.

I feel ya there. I keep all my important combat stuff on 1-4, which are conveniently right next to WASD. Hitting 1 or 2 for weapons is just muscle memory for me at this point. There's no flubbing around with a "last tool" button and accidentally pulling out a shovel instead of a sledgehammer.

Ahhh ok. There is no mention in the hotkeys so I had no idea how to use it. Now I need to figure out which button is MB5 lol

I haven't played yet myself. I heard it was tied to MB5 from another player (streamer) but that could be false. Not every mouse has multiple buttons. I will add though that this feature seems to be more geared toward console players (who would have an MB5 equivalent on their controllers). If that is the case, I do think they should have some way to toggle it off for PC players (or have it toggled off by default).

Now that I know what button on my mouse this is, I have to say it's SUPER handy. my thumb already rests on that button when I hold it so I never have to take my fingers off WASD when I am in a tense situation like being attacked. A good move is to switch to your preferred heal, and then to your primary. When you get into trouble, your heals are a millimeter away from a thumb press, you never have to leave movement keys to switch to a different hotkey.

While it was a bit awkward at first, I find myself using it constantly even when I am out harvesting, switch to your preferred hydration/coffee and then back to your ax/pick and boom quick switch, it's easier and less fatiguing on your hands overall.
