What effects the random harvest from cars?

Is this based on the tool?
Lucky Looter?
Motherlode/Junk Miner?

All of the above?

I know it's somewhat random, because sometimes 1 wrench turn drops a single resource and others 3 or 4.

How is this calculated?

Tool type, but not quality. (wrench vs stone axe)
Lucky Looter ... the number of things MIGHT be influenced by loot stage (which is increased by LL), but I doubt it. Late game cars would be silly.
Motherlode is mining only, Junk Miner ... probably not (it says it effects "mining tool yield" iirc?).

And you skipped Salvage operations for some reason, that and the salvager armor should do something .. ;)

I was curious more about lucky looter because it definitely seems like a roll is done on hit.

An Ax will never give you certain types of items from cars from my understanding. At least I thought that was still the case. They also have a chance of explosion from what I remember.

It's just this is my first maxed out lucky looter playthrough and some whacks with a lvl 1 wrench and I am getting 4-5 resource types and that just feels super high.

My guess was each resource type had a minimum threshold on the roll to appear per whack of the tool

4-5 resource types is pretty typical when wrenching a vehicle. Sometimes you get something like 8 or more (if you're lucky and get an engine and battery on the same wrench.)

It's RNG. It used to be per wrench, so having better wrenching tools would actually give you less loot (less chances to roll for engines/batteries/radiators), but I think that's been fixed at this point.

Edit: Just to add, this is my first wrench of this particular vehicle. I may have underestimated how much stuff you get.

It's definitely not per-hit; I've compared the amount I get using normal attack vs power attack on things, and it's comparable yield for less time as far as I can tell.

As I understand it there is a specific 'salvage harvest' modifier, because the 'Hackers' candy explicitly affects "salvage harvest" with +20% and the Scavenger Gloves (+hat for XP) also give their own salvage-tool-explicit bonus. I'd be surprised if salvage yield is affected by loot stage or Lucky Looter (which seems like it'd only affect searchable containers), I've assumed it to be an effect of Salvage Operations and Scavenger/Hacker bonuses only.

I've also assumed without actually looking into it that the quality/tier of tool will improve output.

Ya the more damage per hit = less potential loot rolls is what I had thought. I noticed heavy attacks giving less per car than light attacks.

I feels to me like there is a roll per resource type per hit that is being modified by some stat. The per hit would lend credence to the idea that there is less potential parts using the highest tool lvl/tiers due to how few hits it takes to break them.

Per hit just might be much easier to code than specific damage thresholds per roll for each resource type. Though punching rocks takes the same amount before you get a stone, so who knows.
