PC What do you guys do to keep the game interesting?

Oxymoron

So pretty straight forward I guess. I’ve had the game since launch on ps4, but now with no new updates on the horizon I don’t know what to do with the game after building my base and upgrading my tools and weapons. Any suggestions?

There's really no end to the game, so there's no point in focusing on one main way to survive. I personally like to build bases based on structures in the real world or entertainment. Trying to figure out how to use the game's rules and mechanics to create it is a lot of fun, if a little heartbreaking at times. I typically do one main structure per save to keep it interesting. If you focus on scavenging for one game and mining plus crafting for another, you'll have to completely different experiences. That's how I survive, anyway.

I make my own rules up sometimes. I'll do games with melee only or I can only build with wood. You could also try being nomadic. Never stay in the same place and can only take what you can carry. Try role-playing and be Legolas. You can only use a bow and leather armor. This game is perfect for pixel art building. You can make some pretty cool stuff from those blocks with a little planning.

I simply create goals that I want to achieve in the long run, as well as short term.

When I started my current random gen, I picked out the seed AllOurDestiny. Figured with 12 towns, 3 being hub cities, there was tremendous potential for scavenging as well as simply traveling. But I wanted to focus on building multiple bases that my imagination might create. But aside from just creating, there was plenty of other short term goals to achieve. From tracking down treasure maps, to simply hunting to stock pile more meat. While not always great loot, those treasure maps can bring you some extremely good loot. Before I finally started going to the Traders, I had roughly 60k. After going crazy on reinforced steel and building items you can't craft, I almost went broke. Did a few more maps I had saved, and right now I'm over 100k, and been scavenging for things to sell, mostly gun parts, so I'll have even more Dukes next time I go.

You simply have to find something that motivates you. For me, its creation. And as I continue to learn new tricks, from more than one block deep swimming pools, to creating structures that actually float with complete structural integrity, I just keep thinking about creating something even more bigger, or simply something for fun, like a tower, or a suicide box to fight from on the 7 day horde night, (Though I'm on day 105 (120 minute days), and the only death was because the stupid dead zone clips into the town I was at and I died before I could even react. So I don't count that as a death, that's just bull crap luck lol), so a suicide box I will create will have a lot of thought put into it.

I created a massive island base just south of the main hub city, and at 0.0, built a centralized 4 way at bed rock to house my massive forge (10 forges, 6 cement mixers that yes, I can and have had them running all at the same time), workshop, and garage with more resources than I should have lol. I got lucky, the main hub is just slightly north of 0.0, so I'm not directly under the hub city.

But I made goals to achieve. When I finish the final touches on my current base, my goal is to continue to build various structures. For example, I want to create a massive tower at some point. But my desire is to be as high as I can go before rendering limitation's reduce my scenery.

Yeah, that was long, but if it gives someone ideas, then I guess it was worth the read lol.

Being on Xbox hugh buildings, massive farms, and a never ending game experience is out of question. Their will always be a MD5,day 20 or day 88 it will appear. Yet my wife and I still play. Clear local saves till we miss one and get reset, start over. We played nomatic for a while but are currently playing dead is dead. When one of us die we start over. Our best game was day 25 (120 length). I died by a landmine. Just for the record in another game I had made it to day 76 before my first death but my wife had died a few times. This was before trying this way. It is definitely harder keeping two alive.

If you want a little cheat without creative. Turn loot to 200 and reduce block durabilty to 25. Use this first couple days. This gives you double loot found and reduces the amount of HP ablock has to 25%. You can gather alot faster. Turn the blocks back to 100,because what you build is at 25% also.

A zombie is not a block and that is not a super level 1 stone ax ,it just seems that way.

My goal is to explore the entire map. my last game, before my save deleted itself....., i was on day 70 almost and had barely touched my random gen map. I am on day 15 now on navesgame and have barely scratched the surface of the northern part of the map where i spawned in

Digging tunnels and building new outposts will keep ya busy. Even just crafting landmines will keep ya busy. Or hop on your bike and explore. Loot on your way there and back. Or just go kill a bunch of roaming hordes. Loot them. Stop by all the traders. There's always something to do. But after day 200+ it does tend to get stale. Then once ya get bored its best to take a break. Or if you get a MD5 bug it takes the wind out of your sails pretty quickly.

I definitely agree with taking a break every now and then. I'm currently in the middle of one with that itch to play again, but I'm trying to hold out for the new update haha

-Build a pyramid

-Create a game called "Mountains". Build a base on the side of a cliff.

-Tunnel Rat: dig down to bedrock and dig tunnels all over the map. Build a second minibike for the tunnels.

-Home Tree: Plant trees and build a tree house village

-Make your own roads from stone or asphalt

-Make your own highway

-Create a fight cage, iron bars on all sides

-Build your base in the center of the Hub City and clear out the entire city

-Build your own Log Cabin from scratch on a hill in the snow biome

-Build multiple farms, different crops for each farm.

-dream and build.....

Home improvement

Like guys are saying, building projects are what keep my wife and I playing. Once our first little cabin had been repaired, we built a second floor. Then we surrounded it with a wall and a trench. Then we filled the trench with spikes. Then we upgraded the wall and the cabin to scrap iron. Then it became concrete. Then the wall got bigger. Then we put steel spikes around everything so that it looks like DethKlok lives there. Then we replaced the old and now redundant inner defenses with a huge concrete basement. Then we fertilized the inner grounds and turned it into a garden featuring various trees and flowers.

When that little slice of paradise in the apocalypse was as cool as it's design could reasonably get we realized that the plains biome had been effectively picked clean. That gave us an excuse to build an entirely new base somewhere else. Of course, the new place in the pine forest biome would have to be a palace complete with raised gardens, reflecting pools, double-drop trenches with tunnel access, tall glass windows, Evel Knievel ramps, and castle walls with raised bunkers on every corner that offer a full field of fire around the perimeter. It was a labor of love. I am excited to think of what we might build for our wasteland base.

Just so you know, drawbridges on ramps that go over the perimeter wall make for a flawless way to get in and out of your base.

1. Go exploring, travel down every possible road or path you can until you have discovered most of the poi's on the map

2. Loot like crazy and by that I mean search every building for a possible gun safe and save gunsafe locations on your map. Also search night stands, toilet, and backpacks for gun loot.

3. Combine all your looted guns/gun parts together and only sell 600 quality items to trader

4. Go mining

5. This next tip is DEFINITELY not recommended for beginners or early game playthroughs. It basically involves cruising the hub city at night heavily armed to hunt for feral wights, and cops. Those baddies drop the best loot hence the reason for specifically hunting them. You have to have at least a full set of iron armor, a full auto gun, beer to avoid stun affects, and last but not least, bring PLENTY ammo n first aid. I personally call this activity hub clubbing

'hub clubbing'.... love it! :)

At the point in the game that I really don’t need to worry about anything, I start a new horde base to try out new ideas.

I’ll keep the old one in case everything hits the fan. In one game I reached the point that I had five different horde bases all relatively close to one another as I kept trying new things.

In my current game, I am trying to repair some of the hub city buildings. Mainly running into two issues:

1. POI physics is different than the rules I have to build by.

2. I can’t make every single piece from the crafting menu.

Unfortunately we console peasants don't have access to paint yet. Paint is essential for the reconstruction of many of the poi's

In a way, repairing a building with the blocks that have adds a little something to the look of the building.

I say join other worlds and build as many quick bases on those worlds before the owner logs out. This something I find fun. Especially on newer maps. leave your mark.

I make up my own rules. For example, I have a series on my stream called PermaDeath. In that you can only stay at a POI for 24 hours. You can stay in a town for 3 days. Allows you to loot it basically. But you can only survive with what you can carry. You can't return to a POI or Town for a week. Forcing you to live on the run. You can leave loot and mark it on your map, but you are always on the run. Also air drops come every 3 days but you have to watch for them, as they are not marked on the map. Friendly fire is on too. Once you die, it is over. Start over.

As a YouTuber I wish we had some kind of updates so that we could keep the content fresh, but I do just come up with different rules. I am playing a series now that is just focused on building. See what we can build up and what works.

Another series or just map/seed is our MythBuster type area. We test out different rumors and such. Has been fun, trying different bases. Calling in hordes, trying this and that.

As I said, I make different rules to try to keep it fresh. Lots of feedback from the community that I have built on the channel too to provide feedback as to what they want. But I wish we had some updates, even monthly that would allow us to come up with new content.

I am afraid this next update is going to be a lot and then there will be tons of tutorials that can be made.

I kept 2 old maps before the No Fun Pimps ruined the game with new mining, that got me by for awhile but I can't stomach playing anymore. Moved on to COD WW2 and Farcry 5. I used to play 4 or 5 hours a day when the game was fun. To be fair they did add some good content but with the Crappy Mining now it doesn't matter, I'm a retired Coal Miner and Carpenter, game was the best game I ever played until it was ruined. I once did an inside out underground base, started with a shaft then added rooms followed by a 20x20 drop pit that was build 30 layers down and built up to the surface.

Anyway have fun I guess, I still check back on the forum here and there hoping mining has been fixed.
