PC Water buckets

You can fill a hole with water using a bucket and drink from it just like you can drink from a lake or river.  Of course, it will be murky water with a risk of dysentery.

You cannot bring water back in a bucket and boil it for clean water.

Can't use it to create the blue jars of water, but you can use it to make a well at your base, then equip a helmet with the helmet purifier mod and you can drink the water infinitely without penalty.

There is a helmet mod you have a chance of finding that allows drinking murky water without a risk of dysentery.  Sometimes you'll find it right away and sometimes you might not find it at all.  It only helps with drinking murky water and does not help for any recipes that require clean water.  Although it can be useful, I never use it even if I find it.  You can get plenty of water from one or two dew collectors, which are easy to craft, and you can boil water easily, so there's not much reason to use it unless you don't have any other mods for your helmet/hat.  I usually have enough money within the first 2-4 hours of play to buy a full set of mods for at least one dew collector, and that gives me plenty of clean water.  That combined with boiling water, which really isn't a big deal if you just start a stack of water boiling before you go to do something else, is enough to supply all my water needs long before I might have any reason to drink murky water.

Agreed, I rarely use it as well, but there is one thing that is still really good about it - overhydrating. Slap on a helm with that mod on it, slam your head down in the base well you made with water buckets and hammer on the "E" (use) button, keep drinking even when your water level is full and you will gain a surplus to hydration. Thankfully the need to use the potty has not been modelled.

The reason I don't do this typically is cause I generally like to only use pure mineral water for drinking so I get the efficient digestion buff. Later on, food is more difficult to get than water, IMO (more annoying). Nonetheless, keeping a 2nd helm in your inventory permanently, with this mod installed, ensures you'll never have to worry about water while out looting again.
