PC Water Bucket making a well

Searched for this and maybe I missed something but I made a water bucket, made a well/pool but cant drop the water in it.    Ive watched some videos on youtube but they were not on a console and not on V 1.0    Did it change that you cant do this anymore?    I know my bucket has water in it cause the lake I dipped it into then had slivers of water missing or looking weird.    Anyone figured this out?    My goal is since I have the helmet mod of a water purifier I could use water for other recipes and not have to hike to a water source now to drink.    Thanks for the help!!!!

 
AFAIK this does not currently work. Probably because the common trick to exploiting unlimited water was by making a small 2-block well in your base. But I'm just guessing really.

That is strange, do you happen to have a video of your setup? I use buckets all the time on PC to make 1x1 wells (I use the block shape with the big hole in the center and dump the water inside), but I haven't tried this on consoles yet.

Just tried this on PS5 and it worked for me. Made a 1x1 hole, concrete bottom with cobblestone sides, had full bucket in hand, and L2 filled the hole with water.

 
I have 2 wells that I made on my Xbox save. The first one I used 2 buckets to fill the corners of a 2x2 surrounded by cobblestone blocks. This was done with only water I used a bucket to collect from a pool near the Hospital. My second pool is in our new base which was a crypt that now looks like an elegant granite underground secret society  base, lol. This location was completely flooded and I had to cover the entire area in building blocks, then make holes in the blocks to gather the water from gaps, stairs, and other spots I couldn't place blocks. I then had to dump those buckets in the holes and fill with another block to remove the water. In doing this I left a spot of I think 4x1 water in the middle of the room that I built a decorative frame around to make a fountain looking area. I use bother of these "wells" as water sources with the filter helmet mod. So I can say it works on xbox unless they broke something with an update since I made it.

 
@Daedric Angel @thatguybeard ok what am I doing wrong.   I took my bucket to a lake last night, pressed R2 and kept scooping water until I seen the sliver of water missing from the lake, then ran back to my base and tried L2 and r2 for ever trying to get the bucket to dump.   PS5 V 1.0 btw    I dug down 2 blocks, placed a wooden block and upgraded it to Cement.   Then dug out all around it 1 block and placed blocks, upgraded them to cobblestone.  I can send a pic when I get home tonight.   How can you tell if your bucket of water has water in it?   Also just to be safe I kept the bucket of water in my hands, didnt switch to anything else in the tool belt.   

 
I just tested this out after reading all this I am writing here to confirm that this does work I made a bucket went to water scooped it up then made the box all concrete blocks & pressed L2 I was able to drop the water in & fill up the spot. The only issue I am having is water does not fill up spaces vertically if you do a 2x3 box. Water only goes to the bottom block & tries to spread out to the blocks around it but water will not rise.

Thanks for testing this Tzane!   Do you think my problem is that I dont have everything in concrete?    Can you upload a pic of your test?    Also could you tell your bucket had water in it?

I don't think it may have to do with your choice of blocks the only thing I could think of is if you changed your world settings at all. I saw in another thread changing world settings was causing some bug for a few people which caused their whole inventory to be encumbered slots. Maybe it's in the realm of possibility this affects water or the bucket? I haven't changed my settings since I first set them so I am not sure of this.

Wow thanks alot for a video!!!!!    Damn its dark🤣🤣🤣   If I can see it correctly your bucket looks like you can see water in it when you fill it, is that correct?   As far as the settings I changed it to easy mode so I can get a hold on the game compared to the old one, turned the days to the longest possible but didnt change it to creative or anything crazy.   Thanks again for all the help!!!!!

Yes PS5 HDR 4k & dark as fuccc the waters in the bucket as I showed when I dropped the water in the rectangle which is 2 blocks down the second block will not rise the water to the top block. That whole rectangle is filled with water. The square I showed at the end is to show how it looks only being 1 block down. I saw when the water expands it only expands in a cross formation but has no added vertical layers.

I cant wait to get home and try it.   I'm thinking I'm not getting water in my bucket.   Gonna Play with that.   Again thanks for the help from everyone!

Just reread through this and you mentioned hitting R2 to fill the bucket. Pretty sure L2 both fills and dumps the bucket. If you didn’t already figure it out.

 
Yes just to confirm L2 to scoop up & L2 to dump. As you saw in the video you have to hit the top of water you can't be under the water scooping it up.

 
Sorry guys busy weekend and forgot to reply.    Went home Saturday night and got a full bucket right off the bat!   As you said I wasnt all the way in the water and I was probably pressing R2 more since that was the only action that did something.  ONLY L2 will fill the bucket and R2 dumped it for me.    Also you can see the water in the bucket for anyone who has issues down the road and reads this.    Thanks again for all the help, this has already saved me soooooo much time!!!
