PC Wasteland Endgame with Feral Sense on, broken?

So I am on my first alpha 20 playthrough from last month, mostly generic settings but feral sense on, random blood moons and no warnings. I am pretty much at endgame now, great equipment, tons of resources, solid bases, tons of dukes etc.

I've been doing tier 5 quests for the trader near a wasteland biome that has my worlds largest city and I gotta say, the wasteland is kinda trash with feral sense on.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good challenge and it certainly is that but its endless wave of zombie spawns ruins the dungeon style layouts of the city POIs since zombies are always breaking doors and walls and exposing (in some cases) the main stash.

Now when I say endless I mean, its never ending, if I am in the city its constant waves of zombies which at endgame just amounts to "ways to get rid of ammo" there is no real difficulty in dispatching them (gets a bit dicer at night, but I'm kitted out) I enjoy feral sense in every other area of the game, its been a lot of fun for me but in the wasteland I end up just missing out on the great POIs because I have no time to get immersed into them as I am forever killing the zombies inside and out, also seems to tank my FPS which makes its super laggy, the lag effects the zombies ability as well they will just run right past me or go into break everything mode even if I'm 3ft away from them (doesn't seem to happen elsewhere)

I've wondered am I missing the point of the wasteland biome and this is just how it is now? or is the added feral sense breaking the game a bit causing endless waves of zombies to spawn in and chase me?

I don't get you pal. You complain about a feature that does exactly what it's supposed to do. I dunno, it's like you expose yourself to rain and then complain you're wet and soaked. 🤷

Cities, whatever the biome, always have a higher spawn rate and count of zombies. The Wasteland has the highest of those, of all biomes. This was requested, actually. And then you have Feral Sense on. What were you actually expecting? It's simply the toughest biome.

I guess your just bored being in end-game. I do loot runs in the Wasteland at Day 12 right now. I don't have Feral Sense on, but I play on Insane and I self-imposed a challenge of not using any melee weapons whatsoever. Im glad I didn't turn Feral on cuz it's pure @%$#ing hell. But I'm having a lot of fun!

So I guess your situation is just peculiar. Maybe it's time to start another game with other settings and restrictions you put on yourself?

I'm kinda with Kyonshi here. Feral sense works exactly as advertised. I'm in the middle of building a base in the wastelands with feral sense always. At night I had to stop moving and just hunker down as my defenses are not in place and trying to do anything resulted in a mini-bloodmoon. I'm just walking around placing blocks and pre-crafted stations and it was nonstop zombies a handful at a time all night. I've run poi's in the wastelands but not with feral sense on and I'm expecting it to be a clusterf. But a fun clusterf  :p  If you want the immersive pseudo dungeon experience you're not going to get it with feral sense and probably not in any city center area regardless of biome. Even without feral sense zombies are too dense in city centers to not disrupt the experience.

That said, think of it if ammo wasn't raining out of the sky right now. If you have to spec into stealth before going into city centers or you just get mobbed out of ammo and overrun.

Iirc If you check biomes.xml you'll see that zombies spawn in wasteland almost instantly at night. With feral sense on that's a never ending swarm of zombies, so you'll have to stay as silent as possible, if feral sense even allows that.

I highly suggest cheesy drones placed strategically near 45 degree rotated doors. Since you are end game those drones should keep the zombies occupied while you're doing a quest. Emphasis on should.

Feral sense is doing exactly what's intended. All it does is increase the zombies sight/hearing value to a much higher number. The developers intended it for those who want to see more zombies, at a more constant rate. The option doesn't seem like it fits you very well and there's nothing wrong with disabling it.

Your either gonna have to move to a stealth build, avoid the wasteland, or disable the feature entirely.

Cheers all for the responses.

To clarify I do enjoy the added zombies in all other areas, can certainly see the difference from other alphas, in the cities. i have another fairly decent city in the snowy biome which is always swarming with zombies, its just there is an end, theres eventually a break. time to enjoy the POIs, even if its only for a couple of minutes before another wave is coming around, i just found it odd in the wasteland that is basically horde 24/7 and all other aspect of the game design are thrown out the window.

but hey as yall have said thats kinda the point of feral sense, heightened zombie awareness and spawns which gets super amplified in the cities to create that experience, its just one i found in the wasteland to be a bit mundane and boring, perhaps i need to put challenges on myself or build a base to try and survive there to find added enjoyment.

It seems to me that you're just getting in to a vicious circle: more zombies gravitating to you > lots of ammo usage > more spawns/screamers > more zombies gravitating to you ad infinitum.

Perhaps the current state of the game means that certain combinations of mechanics (settings/biomes/gamestage/spawning) do not work well together or, if things are working as intended, you might just need to experiment with settings/mods to tweak things to your specific liking. For me, feral sense has little appeal for the issues you have already presented.
