PC Wandering hordes after blood moon

I just had my night 84 blood moon and as soon as morning hit and I went out to clear the bodies, a wandering horde walked right into me. This same exact thing has happened for the past three or four blood moons as well, without fail.

I'm just curious if this is a thing that just happens in the later game. I can't think of a single time in the first eight or nine blood moons that it happened and I've always been in the same place. Again, just curiosity.

Wandering hordes are random all the time. The only time that they are excluded from spawning is when the feral horde spawns are occurring. (They can happen mere moments before also.)

You could have had one within minutes of starting the game too.

 
I've had a wandering horde of just dogs right after a blood moon... I was getting rdy to go down and clear and I heard the barking...

 
Yeah it happens - they can come day and night and I've frequently had them turn up while I'm clearing up after the blood moon.

 
Yup. I've also read & heard in videos that dead zombie bodies add to your heat map.

This makes sense due to the massive amount gore blocks laying around after a blood moon. Plus your actions chopping them up add to your heat so later game it does become fairly common, especially if you haven't died in a while.
