Why not make it so zombies can climb trees? Imagine you are chopping a tree and a zombie is falling from it.

Or you can add more species of zombie animals, including those that live in trees.

 
I mean I love zombies raining down on me as I chop down trees as much as the next guy... I think taking your idea of zombie animals for trees would be great though. Maybe have another zombie bird that nests in trees? Another possibility is to have snakes that fall down from a tree.

Now don't mind me as I clear every tree from around my base.

 
That's neat, you could even have zombie sloths that reside hidden in the branches, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Then they drop onto you and grab your face like a face hugger. You need to mash you buttons to get free, then they skitter away and climb a different tree.

 
"The Forest" devs did this in their game. Buit it makes more sense there as they are human cannibals that try to out think you and run and dodge attacks. Stupid undead shouldn't have this kind of tactic available. I'm already at odds with the new AI mechanics that make zombies seem to know exactly how to get to you, regardless of line of sight, distance, structural integrity and other things you would need a working brain for calculating.

some vultures sleeping in a tree that hunt you when you start chopping is a decent idea
