PC V3.0 Sandbox Siege Dev Diary

I'm referring to pre-biome progression. Before everything you stated was added in the first place.
That, according to the town meeting, and a few posts in the main area, was an progressive point of contention.
That is the reason for the toggle options that tfp spoke about, a while back they asked for additional
toggle suggestions. It is to allow the then and now to coexist in one game vs the see saw effect that
preceded it. Just think of the option menu, if done correctly as an Einstein Rosen Bridge for preferences.

We used to always go to the desert to set up base at the start of any wipe, but yet again TFP stepped in and shoehorned us into playing how they wanted us to.
Hmm; I feel roughly the same, but you got me thinking. Starting back at this quote, and thinking further back - if you started the game as a fresh player now, would you still gravitate towards the desert as the first biome? I don't mind the difficulty, or the idea of biome survival itself either; but I think the current versions of each aren't .. pleasant.
Desert 'difficulty' is mostly in the bees, their slows and infections. Annoying and .. annoying.
Biome gear is .. still feeling like a lazily implemented grind for grind's sake. It's not a big grind, but it still feels .. uninspired.

The idea of difficulty progression makes sense, I'd want to have it. But as a new player, I would just despise the desert as it is now, whether I'm prepped for it or not. I'd prolly skip it for snow ASAP. A teddy here and there is more pleasant than the bugs. I would also become kitty kibble a lot ... but that'd still be better :P

Honestly, my biggest complaint with the biome progression at this point is that it barely feels like progression. If you really needed to go to the different biomes for specfic resources to craft better gear (not the bog standard coal/lead/iron/nitrate we have now, before someone mentions that) it would feel like it's actually worth it to progress biomes, but I mostly do it now just because (and I haven't bothered doing quests anywhere exceot the forest and the desert, which is only because the trader I started at is right next to the desert and sometimes sends me there.)

I've finished tier 6 quests (I use a mod to add cities back to the forest, admittedly), have every relevant crafting magazine maxed out except armor, have every magazine series completed, and have two (mod added) mod recipes that I haven't found yet. I even found the quad pocket mod schematic.

Being able to do everything in the game without spending more than 15 or so minutes in the "advanced" biomes seems to be an absolute failure of a progression system.

I'm not really sure where you get that progression is a problem for me. You can do everything in the game and every game ever created by gearing yourself up and preparing for it. Missing the point entirely. I'm not sure how any discussion is advanced by stating things that intuitively everyone understands. But it really is insulting

From your own words. You claim that TFP has put restrictions that prevent you and your friends from starting the game in the desert. What restrictions do you mean if you aren’t referring to the fact that you have to build up your character and gain the desert gear before you can comfortably live in the desert due to its environmental hazard and more difficult enemies?

If I’m getting it wrong then explain because everything you’ve mentioned so far is just progression. I don’t think you have a problem with progression in the sense that you can’t do it. I think you have a problem with it in the sense that you don’t like it. You didn’t know it was going to be in the game when you bought it and haven’t played much since it’s been implemented.

You admit that the game is packed full of conditions that require the player to gear up and prepare to do. I agree. So why does the application of that to living in the desert rub you the wrong way?

Yeah, that’s true it would be great to have some unique items that can only be found in specific biomes, as well as a cool reward, like a unique item, for completing all the challenges in the game.

I remember how a city could span multiple biomes at once. It would be nice to see that in V3.0.

There is also the possibility of generating large cities randomly in any biome.
Now if only those large cities would generate with Shamway and Shotgun Messiah Factories.
