V2.5 Survival Revival Dev Diary

Thanks Riamus for the advice.

Anyways I just had my fifth red-moon fight day 35. It was the first time that I got attacked by that one that calls bees to attack.
That changed things up a bit. lol
No problem. The bees definitely make you have to think a bit when you first come across them on horde night. I ended up just dropping a junk turret behind me and let it deal with the bees for me. Too much work trying to keep dealing with them myself.

Which got me to think that maybe the Devs might want to add increase attacks on the players base the closer they get to day seven or blood-moon.

Easy.

Day 1-2: kill screamers before they scream
Day 3-4: let them scream once before killing them
Day 5: let them scream a couple times before killing them
Day 6: ignore the screamers until additional screamers spawn then kill them all
Day 7: Never kill a screamer.

It's funny, but I don't seem to get screamers at my base anymore. I used to get them regularly, but then I put a couple of turrets up and have not had any more appear since then. And, no... it's not because they were getting killed. Maybe a bug, maybe RNG. But my turrets are feeling lonely.

I don't think many people spend all their time at the base. At least in the middle of the game, you start spending less time there. You arrive, sort your loot, check your workbenches/furnaces/chemistry labs, harvest your crops, and then go about your business. If it's daytime, you can complete quests or just loot. If it's nighttime, you can go hunting and collect animal bones. Or just go and dig for resources, you need a lot of them.

Been having a similar experience.

Current base is in the wasteland, in Zillions Tower (a 0 skull POI). I removed the entire first floor of the tower so zombies can't get in. Still, screamers and wandering hoards would show up. Due to the lack of a path to my location, I suppose, they took to attacking the door of the garage I built. I couldn't actually hear them attacking, but every two or three in-game days I'd have to go repair the steel door.

So. I placed a couple of shotgun turrets (with AP slugs) to guard the door, along with an alarm on a motion sensor.

The alarm has not gone off a single time. The turrets have not fired any rounds. The doors have remained 100% intact for several in-game weeks since I built the turrets.

How far are you into the game? I wonder if there could be a bug after a certain game stage. Perhaps unlikely, but two people with a similar experience starts to raise questions. I'm around mid-30s on 2 hour days and they stopped coming towards the end of the 20s.

Coming up on day 150, default day length. Put up the turrets shortly after day 120 (playing 30 day bloodmoons).

@faatal

I have two questions for which I am curious, regarding blocks.

Why are building or placed blocks, 45' offset from terrain blocks?

The placed or poi blocks I was told once before are voxel blocks also
just not using marching cubes for distortion.

If the non terrain block shapes, were converted to simple poly block
shapes, since they don't distort like terrain blocks and only use the
10 cel crack overlay to show damage, excluding doors and windows, would
or could that lower data size for pois? and the region files over all.

Then for destruction, have it use something like pulldownit or other
destruction algorithm.

Leaving the terrain blocks as they are now.
Terrain is marching cubes, which have density and blend into all their neighbors. If they have diagonal neighbors, like when you make a hole in the ground, you get a diamond hole.

A wild (and optimistic) guess would probably be June 2026, because 2.x is not done yet (2.6->2.7?), so it will be completed in the next months and the full throttle development on 3.0 will presumably start next May/June.

Since they've already started working (only in part) on 3.0 on the side, it's not unreasonable to think that 3.0 Exp could be ready in about a year.
Version numbers and release timings are changing. We are working towards smaller and quicker releases.
