SHIFT: Hold down to run (do not toggle anything by tapping it)
RANDOM KEY: Auto-run. Tap to toggle on or off.

YES!!! This is what I have been asking for too. Traditional "hold to sprint" being completely separate key from tap to auto-run.

Of course, I also want to remap the key for exiting a vehicle away from the "interact" key (E on keyboards). Too many random acts of skydiving.

They announce as the update goes out. Several ways to make sure your game doesn't get broken by an update, and they are all on you, not TFP.

You want them to test mods before releasing an update? You understand how stupid that sounds, right?

No, mods are alive because of this game. How have you been around this long and don't understand how things work by now?

They never released any update without the announcement before the update is live. Not when updating to a new version. As said, those updates that were live before any announcement were always small fixes that neither broke saves nor mods.

Just have a workflow that has logic in it. I mean who posts an announcement after the update is live? How is that a logic workflow? That´s like announcing a concert after it started. And not like instantly after it went live. It was like 20 mins later. But what do i expect, they aren´t even able or willing to post announcements everyhwere like they should.

Its completely in your hands without depending on announcements. Just lock your client/server into a version and your done. You and only you can decide then if and when you update with your precious mods. Easy and simple.

I loathe writing up Documentation but it is an important aspect of every development area. With Ravenhearst I always release patch notes at least 24 hours before, if it is a wipe patch or update I announce that at least a WEEK before so people can prep.

I have seen professional game releases have NO patch notes until you pester and ask for them. Alekk is a game where the dev releases these 5 gig updates and not a word is spoken as to what is in them until you ask for days on their Discord what was added or changed.

I think there is a certain responsibility to work flow that should be followed. At a minimum.

It is intentional though. No reason other than making sure the update works, and that the patch notes worked correctly once published.

I usually never experience it the other way around. It´s the first times i get an update before release notes for 7 days and it was at least 20mins, maybe even 30mins after the update. That´s just sloppy. And what is the worst that could happen? That people ask where the update is. That´s it. One more topic of complaining doesn´t matter anymore tbh.

And things went wrong anyways with this one. There was several people without mods having troubles....

Noted who i never ever want to work with. It´s a simple logic thing. First announcement, then release. What is so hard about that? Especially after years of having the notes before the updates when it matters.

What´s so weird about wanting people to work with logic? No matter if mods or not, i want to know if i want that update or not. How long do i have to wait next time after the update? One hour? One day? Just work with normal logic.

Not to give excuses, but it may not be that simple.

The content that is included for the release may not be finalized until just before the release (working on things and they don't know if it will make the release or not). That means the announcement wording may not be finalized ahead of time. All of the announcements released by my company are required to be approved by legal. If TFP works the same way, then they have 3 options.
* Have a huge amount of pre-approved announcements already approved by legal and if one matches the exact content that is locked, publish the one that matches the content (lawyers shy away from this option due to too much time spend on the ones that are not used and someone may accidentally publish the wrong one).
* Lock the content of the software update, then send the wording to legal, wait for them to bless it (might not be a quick process), then publish the announcement, then publish the software. (results in a delay in making the completed software available).
* Lock the content of the software and send the announcement to legal. Publish each portion as soon as possible in any order so as to get the updates in the hands of the eager customers. Unofficial content may be leaked but not the official announcement until approved.

In no way and I saying this is how TFP does it, but that is certainly the corporate way. I've had to testify as an expert witness in hundreds of cases and now I've moved to being the editor/publisher for my corporation. Trust me, when lawyers get involved, logic goes out the window. You'd think that announcing the contents of a software patch would be quick and easy, but depending on some behind the scenes factors, it may not be the case.

Whether or not they should have posted the patch notes first, I would point out that you may not always be around when notes are posted and Steam can update without you being there. They could release the patch notes 5 hours before the update right after you leave for work and by the time you're home, the update could have already downloaded and you might not notice until you start the game, especially if you load from a shortcut. Even if you did notice and you decided you didn't want to do the update yet, you'd then have to go in and redownload an older version before starting the game. It just makes sense for you to lock in your game version if you are concerned about updates so that it will never update until you are ready. Otherwise, no matter what they do, you'll always have the chance of getting an update you don't want.

@Riamus I am not leaving my PC running when i am not at home. There is no downloads happening while i am not at home. So yes i can stop updates even when i turn on steam after a week for the first time.

Who in his right mind let´s his PC running while at work?

@DocRussel After 12 years of early access and at least two more years to come, they can safely just postpone things that aren´t ready a day before the planned release and it already was in experimental for a while before that. Also there was no deadline given for V2.2 stable so no need to rush.

It really just sounds like you're made you had issues with mods due to the game update and wanna vent about it here.

Even if they released the notes first how would you know what effects the updates have on the mods you are running? Should TFP run through every mod released and put up a list so you know if they are affected? Would you consider that logical?

Oh i would have known. Not asking TFP to test mods here, i don´t know where you all pull out that argument. Never said that. Just saying the announcement should be there before the update. Seeing the lockable slots added wouild have told me that at least the backpack won´t work anymore. Same for quickstack. And it doesn´t even matter if mods or not. I simply want to read the patch notes before the update is live. Is that really asking too much? It´s not like it´s rocket science or anything. Just a matter of when to press which button.

As you said in a previous post, this is one of the few(only?) times they did this. Why are you so upset about it? Just play the game and quit finding every little thing to ■■■■■ about. Yeesh.

I am done until they fix stuff, like communication aka hiring a community manager and glaring game issues. I am sick of having to wait every update until our favorite overhauls are finally updated because the game went from survival and being scary to let´s hold your hand and is boring af in vanilla. I mean things like first the make seeds super rare when harvesting and now you find them everywhere in loot in packs of 4-6 to make up for it. First they reduce bookstores then they introdcue a skill that let´s you find more books. I am tired of all that crap.
