PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Exactly. What kind of twisted backwards thinking are you doing there?
As far as I can see quoting my own reply doesn't include your name anywhere.

If I say something is Blue what would you think I said? Red?
My gosh! This forum has some special kind of humans posting here... 🤨

Any right thinking person knew and appreciated your joke. Nuff said, lol.

Hi @faatal
Please let us know on Monday (or something) if you were able test a build over the weekend.
Very curious to know how the build performed.

Thanks and have a great long weekend.
I made my own build Saturday and played about 7 hours through Sunday on a 6k RWG with the only setting change being 5% forest. 200% storms.

I did have an issue with the game hanging using DLSS on Performance or Balanced every time I walked into a specific spot in the world. After driver update and reboot, still happened. d3d11 GPU reset. Ultra Performance was fine and still looks good, so continued using that as it appears to be a weird driver/Windows/GPU issue.

Day 1, I killed an animal and smelled from meat while still looking for a base location, but the smell distance was low, so carried on. Had to be aware of when to eat to manage smell. Found myself using torches to keep warm even though I had a head lamp. Having to note water supply locations for filling those jars. Went night exploring, killed an animal and now the meat smells, but I had dumped paper at my base. I found some paper heading back to base. In total, the water, smell and weather changes all combined to make it feel different and fresh with more thinking about what I was doing. Still in the forest, so have not yet even tried survival elsewhere, but that snow storm in the distance looked impressive.

The game played great. My only note was to improve destroy area scanning near the player, which I did today. I also adjusted biome temperature values today as it was a bit too cold in forest and snow and switched to using the sheltering system for indoor temperature adjustment as the old block light propagation system is flaky.

@faatal
I have a few curiosity questions regarding 3rd person view camera.
Will there be an option, to have the camera auto switch views?
If you have tested it how fast does the camera switch?
Looking at it again on the Dev Stream, It made me think of an action
camera, similar to some of the newer thematic movies. Have you toyed
with that idea personally? Last looking at the stability of the movement
instantly made me think of the Drone. In first person will this possibly be
used to stabilize it's movement, in close encounters? In the future
There is a single programmer working on it and it is not me. I don't think there is any auto mode. You press an input like the alt key and it quickly switches. It does push in in tight spaces. Others are testing it as I prefer 1st person.

@faatal
Will new challenges be added to the challenges menu with the new update? I know that Minecraft adds new achievements with each update. I think it would be cool to do something like this for 7 Days to Die.
I don't think so. Some have probably been adjusted for game changes.

@faatal enlight of the new speculations can we get confirmation there is no rumblings about 2.5 being pushed till jan? we still on schedule for "early not later dec?"
The schedule has not changed as of this moment and my awareness.

@faatal if possible, please search for "techpowerup dlss" and get the latest Nvidia DLSS drivers and copy those in the game folder.
I noticed that 7 Days to Die uses a pretty old DLSS driver. The newer DLSS cleared certain problems on my end.
You could also ask the "graphics guy" to have a quick look.

...Found myself using torches to keep warm... in the forest.

It would be neat if there were carrots to go with the sticks. A ‘warm front’ passes through Navezgane one day, so you stay out of the desert. Instead, you go into the warmer-than-usual snow biome without needing xyz. Taking advantage of unpredictable opportunities, as well as avoiding unpredictable threats, would feel weather survival-y.

I have to ask, is the smell mechanic going to replace the current 'heat detection', or is it going to be applied right beside and in addition to it?
Smell would be different from heat. Smell only applies to raw food when not wrapped and when in your inventory or eaten and certain cooked foods when eaten.

As long as it isn't changing in the middle of the day forcing you to keep swapping whatever it is that protects against different temperatures (mods, maybe?).

YES THE FOREST HAS TEMPERATURE

We use a 3rd party plugin for DLSS. I forwarded your info to our programmer who handles that.

Thanks

Smell is a variation on noise. Smell/Noise have nothing to do with the activity (heat) map.

DEEP Lore Question

So zombies are attracted and run to smell now? So does that mean if I release the meanest protein fart out in the wild and a zombies near me will he dead sprint towards me?

Asking for a friend

In that case im screwed, also no wounder why we can't find cans of beans
If anything I'd imagine you could use that to mask yourself from the zombies. If it's that rank smelling, they would probably just assume you're dead and rotting away same as them.

Well tbh we dont know what foods emit a smell my guess its the same stuff that use to smell

Would be cool if rotten meat also emit smell would make farm plots grinding scary

Since there's no farting in the game... There's your answer... But still funny!!! 😁 My brother also laughed on that one.

As of today yes.

"Added dysentery flatulence causes a smell."
