PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

For an A+ we would like to see a slight adjustment in the frequency of the spitter.
I agree with pretty much everything you said, but specially with this.

When you're are just earning your badge, it's great being able to find them quick, but after you're done with it, the constant spawn of spitters and frostclaws starts getting just annoying.

Just driving my minibike through the desert and I get a desert spitter spawn in front of me every 100 meters or so.

If it were up to me, I'd change the challenge to kill just any zombie inside the biome, could be a much larger ammount, and leave the spitter and frostclaw (maybe even the flamy burnt and mutated tho I don't mind those) as a much beefier and rarer sort of field boss.

100% agree, my first death in 2.0 was due to a biome zombie who broke a 1x1 meter whole in a POI I was questing at night time. I bet, screamer hordes are even more dangerous in those T5/T6 POIs...mass chaos I bet...
Speaking of screamers...I've had numerous charged/infernal zombies in pois but even at gamestage 600 plus they haven't been called in by any screamer scream, are they excluded from screamer hordes and only seen in pois and bloodmoons?

I think GNS has made a mod that decreases the frequency of Spitters and Frostpaws overall. You still get them, but just not All. The. Time.

I haven't played far enough in 2.0 to get beyond radiated, so I don't have any personal experience with it yet. But that is a little strange if that's the case. On the other hand, maybe they felt that people are already complaining about screamers all the time and making the screamer hordes even harder would not go over very well. That's just a guess, though.

So I turned off storms in my current run, I'm in the burnt biome, and a storm has started. Eh?
Did you turn it off before starting the game, or after? Is the storm doing damage to you? You should probably report it as a bug in the Bug Reports section as that doesn't sound right.

Makes me ponder if the Frost Claw should be a night time only spawn?
That would be really bad for people completing the snow badge. You couldn't complete it except at night that way.

Got me thinking about if the Frost Claw and Plague Spitter

Makes me ponder if the Frost Claw should be a night time only spawn?
These two posts brought this thought to mind.

What if Night was 3/4 of your 24 hour day, Both the Plague Spitter and Frost Claw could
phase shift, and at night only became visible within 5 meters from the player. It makes me
think of Predator. Not saying I want that, but, boulders and swarms appearing from mid air,
their sounds emanating in the darkness, with directional sound, if you are wearing headphones.

Player response prediction??? Anyone?

I've had storms turned off for weeks now. I have a friend who reported the same thing. I'll consider making a bug report, thanks. :)

I misspoke, sorry. I remembered I restarted recently. They've been disabled since the beginning.
I haven't tested a world without storms, but are you still taking damage when in them?

Having different variants of zombies at night is an interesting idea. I could see this being possible ^^

Correct. It dissipated after an in-game hour or so. I haven't spent much time in the more difficult biomes thus far, so it's hard to comment on how rare or common they still might be.

I think the screamer spawns/timer has definitely been beefed up. I have a small 16 plot garden & I get a screamer (or two) EVERY time I harvest!

I agree with others on the plague spitter, their sawn rate is definitely too high! I've never been infected so much in this game before!! 🤮

The frost claw on the other hand doesn't seem as bad to me.

Does anyone else not like the iron sights on the smg?! I hate it! It comes automatically equipped with a ghost sight & I'm not a fan.

All of the drawbacks of a scope with none of the advantages? Why would you possibly hate it...

It would annoy me a lot more except for the fact that agility builds can now have pinpoint hipfire accuracy with an SMG, so you never actually need to aim down the sights.

As a random aside, I always took 'ghost sight' to mean a peep sight with a ring so thin it becomes almost translucent, and you can see the target both inside and outside the ring. The SMG sight's apeture is so thick I end up accidentally trying to use it in construction thinking it's a 1m pillar block. So maybe 'hulking abomination sight' or 'lumbering werebeast sight' rather than 'ghost sight' might be the right flavour of 'firearm sights named after mythological entities' to describe the horror that is the SMG rear sight.

A real ghost sight, as I understand the term, would be superb on the SMG!

I really gotta ask. For those getting beaten with the ugly stick, are you on stable, how many minutes is your game day,
are you set higher than nomad, how many zombies do you have set for your horde-is it above 30?
Legit question, point of reference, I'm on 294, day 24 2hour days, nomad, 24 horde. I have not seen one screamer horde
yet, I thought they had been turned off. Have done all but the last quests for the wasteland, I have the burnt badge, and just
need to request desert and snow from the traders. But I have left those timers active for now, taking notes for an idea.

Storms, day 2 died 4 times, day 13 stayed in a t3 poi I had cleared, day 17 noticed raindrops, on way to Jen and it started
when I was inside. No more since then, been stealth clearing the hospital at night in segments, then traveling to all biomes
during the day. Have 2 dew 1 local the other across the creek; forge and work station across the creek in another poi.

I guess it paid to not be the first to jump into the potentially infested waters this time. So I will start a new playthrough, on
Stable soon but for now.......Nope. Still taking notes.

It's a diopter drum sight. Pretty much the classic rear sight for HKs. The only problem I see with it is the top of the drum is WAY too high; the hole should be positioned just under the rim, not halfway down the drum.

Oh, boy. I just realized what TFP did. Looking at the ingame model (not the photo posted above), the devs basically took the elevation and windage turrets off of a scope... and kitbashed them into a really cheesy drum sight.

TFP, I love you guys, but holy hell that is so lazy.

That's interesting. Certainly the firing position on the real world version doesn't trash your peripheral vision like the game one does.

H&K are impeccable gunsmiths, but at the risk of being lynched by angry gun fetishists, I don't think staying true to real world firearms is a necessary nor good idea for 7DTD gun sights. Even before a designer played fast and loose with the inspiration.

Sights actually significantly impact gameplay in a way other gun aesthetics do not, and real world sights were not developed for the 7DTD world.

Real world sights are not designed for accurate headshots on a target closer than 10m while maintaing peripheral awareness. That's exactly what you want a 7 Days sight to do. Real world sights also aren't designed for engaging with targets whose primary threat is charging you and eating your brains, while frequently requiring multiple hits to achieve a stop.

I'm all for making sights look believable, and if a real world sight works in the 7 Days world then sure, go with an approximation of reality, but gameplay considerations should come first.

Funnily enough I have no problem at all with the way 7 Days does scopes, which seems to be a complaint of a significant number of people. I do wish it didn't blank out your UI though. Mostly so you can still see your kill streak bonus value...

That's exactly why reflex and other types of red dot sights exist. It makes perfect sense that the basic iron sights aren't the best at every situation, otherwise there would be no point in upgrading your guns with other types of optics or accessories.
