PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

It is less British than you think from what I have read.

The term gobbledygook was coined by Maury Maverick, a former congressman from Texas and former mayor of San Antonio. When Maverick was chairman of the Smaller War Plants Corporation during World War II, he sent a memorandum that said: "Be short and use plain English. ... Stay off gobbledygook language." Maverick defined gobbledygook as "talk or writing which is long, pompous, vague, involved, usually with Latinized words." The allusion was to a turkey, "always gobbledygobbling and strutting with ridiculous pomposity.

Nice. It's a word I heard plenty when I was a kid, and I'm pretty sure I didn't leave the US until I was 12. So I was surprised at the idea that the word is somehow inherently British.

gosh - any update to the dedicated server release? was told middle April, now we're pretty much in mid march.
Seems much silence about anything i could initially find to an update... this going to be a June or July release?

Middle of April was a "hopeful" rough estimate for the release of the Unstable Experimental opt-in testing on Steam. The best guess for a Stable release was early May if they were able to meet the hopeful target.

Whenever the Unstable build releases, add 3-4 weeks for your expectation on a Stable release that will come to the consoles.  And I'll also note that you shouldn't put a lot of weight on the dedicated server crossplay being released at that time. It still will depend on Sony and Microsoft approvals, and nothing is set in stone there.  We are just keeping our fingers crossed that this time they will maybe finally get around to approving it.  Something we have been waiting for since last July.  I will remind you that the basic cross-platform Peer-2-Peer was originally anticipated for the July launch of 1.0 on all platforms, and it was delayed until December thanks to Sony and Microsoft.

It's going to be released when it is ready. Don't set any other expectation.

@Roland Could you please open a topic titled "Gobbledygook" in the General Discussion?

I think it deserves its own thread.  :nerd: :heh:

That last update was from faatal.  He said 50/50 chance by the end of this month.  I'd assume he meant experimental.  But since TFP is usually running behind, I'd expect at least next month.

@faatal Question for you, do you think the new zombie Blue and Orange archtypes will add to the difficulty later game? It seems there is a big drop off when you just hit that radiated cops and that's about it.

Well, they are new tiers.  So you should see an increase with each just like you do when going to feral or to radiated.

If you read his reply, he does answer my question about the Experimental build being released before Memorial Day. Yes, he said 50/50
The funny thing is I was thinking Memorial day was end of month, which is not the case, so my 50/50 really meant end of month.

Yes, as charged and infernal are tougher and do more damage.

@faatal Well, Memorial day is May 26 (Monday). Then the Next Monday is already June 2nd, so I figured, if not by Memorial Day, then June for sure.

A little like April 15 really meant somewhere in April kind of thing. 😁

So, still 50/50?

I think there should be a tier before feral cuz facing ferals with stone tier is a nightmare for Me mostly ending in death. I'm not saying nerf ferals but some progression would be nice.

Maybe more special varrants like spitting, toxic, etc

Hmm.  I don't think there is much room to put a tier before feral.  They really aren't too hard if you only have one or two if you focus on headshots, though.  I've killed them with a Q1-2 some spear on day 1 before, though it was certainly a more difficult fight.  That was back when they showed up more often in the early game in towns. I like having a bit of challenge in the early game.  Everything else is so easy then.  Not that it gets much harder later, of course.

I can't really comment on other weapons since I haven't bothered with other melee weapons for a very long time, but it should be possible with them also.  If not, you probably aren't seeing those as part of an early quest, so there isn't any reason not to run away if they are too difficult.  I would much rather have two additional high tiers for zombies to extend the game.  If they made one of those an early tier, I doubt that would mean they would create another tier to extend the late game, so we would probably only get one newlate game tier instead of two is they did that.  But maybe not.

i would think having a 'tough' variant would be the only tier  acceptable in terms of a difficulty increase, like their eyes are yellow but instead of sprinting they jog and when hit have a higher chance to rage and go into sprint and have about 50% more hitpoints, this is just my take of a tier inbetween but i personally don't see how they'd go about doing it apart from just adding a weaker variant of a feral like i proposed.

In another twist, I think of releases as Friday as that is when someone gets it. The someone being streamer weekend, so yes public would be a Monday, which in this case is June at which point I would say 100% not May.

Maybe a Harden zombies that's just normal speed but has the hp of a feral and gives 500 xp. Idk but I like @FramFramson idea of zombies with more varied health

My guesses for the new zombie variants are that the charged blue will be immune to electricity and have a short invulnerability instant after being hit when his damage doubles; and the infernal orange will be immune to fire, extra fast and only spawn at night (and tier 5 POIs). We need some kind of night-only zombie, to make the dark more terrifying, like in the game Dying Light
