PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

I'm not really a fan of turning cardboard boxes into loot. POI designers need some things that are loot-less placeholders, otherwise you might turn things like warehouses and storage rooms into massive loot fests. It would have to be done with care. Would you prefer to have cardboard boxes that had a 10% chance of containing loot but otherwise would be empty? Current cardboard boxes have no interaction and players learn not to bother checking them ... it's efficient.

I experimented with custom crates that had no content. People hated them. They spent lots of time figuring out they had no content. I eventually concluded the current approach to cardboard boxes made the most sense.
yeah fully agree.  if i need paper/plastic i go chopping at those boxes quite often.  turning them into more things to loot.  not thank you.  I am always swimming in loot, so i don't need more containers.

plus there has to be some sort of overhead for  game to have all of those lootable containers.

Agreed. I always thought it was funny seeing the football ball dude running at you, arms stretched out.  

Bring back the Cowboy and Cheerleader too. 

 
I'm curious about the Navezgane makeover. Did you rearrange the biome's borders? I hope the snow biome is still far from the desert, it's the one thing I don't like about random gen, most of the time those 2 opposites are neighbors.
Do you have plans to eventually include all 900+ POIs in Navezgane?

The biome borders have shifted some but they are mostly in their original places.  We try to include new POIs when they come online but we also try not to insert them without a design consideration.

For example, in 2.0 you will see more T1 POIs closer to Trader Rekt, more T2 POIs closer to Trader Jen, etc.

More work will certainly continue with the Map post 2.0 as well.

Here in AZ, you can go from Phoenix(desert) at 80 degrees to Northern AZ with snow during certain times of the year
