PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

big no on lightning striking the player.

It seems to rain 2 or 3 times a day every day!

you want a lightning strike then have it hit a POI and wake all the zeds up and have them pour out the doors... lol

I also hope that there will be a way to unlock the protection gear without using a trader. I’ve been playing without traders for over 6 years now because they make the game/survival far too easy.

I enjoy playing without traders too. You kind of have to be willing to modify something (like the map) to do it, but I usually end up modifying a recipe or two. I could see having to make a crafting recipe for the protection gear. That's not a difficult mod.

ugh…that means we’d have 40 people here complaining about lightning forcing players to abandon their preferred playstyle of running around in the rain and claiming the majority of the community hates it…
one playstyle i havent seen no one even discuss on here but tons of people play is Hardcore (when you die you start over) i already can see thousands of those players getting @%$#ed having to redo their biom kits over and over, rofl.

From what it sounds like, all the trader is required for is receiving the challenge rewards, in this case the kit. You won't have to do any questing for the traders.
I delete the traders from spawning on the map most of the time, my suggestion would work for all playstyles. Fetch the burnt forest kit in a random T1 or even remnant POI located in the burnt forest. If not, then no harm in using creative to fetch it once earned

You have to understand that the probability would be so low that if 500 people played for 200 days only 1 person would get struck. That's how it works in Red Dead 2. And on the rare occasion that people do get struck, not only does it not bother them, they post it online and laugh about it.

But it could be a little event. When the player gets struck, they get stunned like they walked into an electric fence, and it awakens zombies under the ground and they start crawling out. That's two of my requests rolled into one.

Different titles have been tagged to it, dead is dead, iron man, hard core, It would be no different than playing pvp. Isn't the underlying point there to kill or be killed.

The only difference would be do you want to start over or not. I could see it being stressful if it were in a paid tournament, for a hefty prize.

I just call it resetting, or do over, like in an arcade, maybe as more varied dangers and challenges are added they may replace dead is dead, and some may go back to playing as it was in the past.  It was just play and enjoy, and have a good story to share. That is the advantage of pve, you have the option to choose either and if you

Del reload you play better next time.  Samuel Beckett said "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."  Yoda said "Do or do not , there is

no try". So choices.

Why does everyone assume to get hit by lightning when it is only raining? You must live in a strange place.

Naturally there would have to exist a (visible) weather condition thunder&lightning, otherwise players would be rightfully up on the barricades.

I don't see the problem. Dead-is-Dead players have to do all sorts of stuff to get going again, get xp, get weapons again, regain bicycle and work up to motorbike or gyro, get money, .... There is no change here, DiD players regularily have to begin anew and I expect them to know that.

What is different about that versus current challenges or having to get your gear again and level up again and build a base again and so on?  If people don't want to do the challenges to get the protection, they can always use the Creative Menu or a mod (console excluded, of course) to change how it works.  It wouldn't be difficult.  And, besides, hazards can be turned off, so even console users don't have to deal with it if it's such a big deal to them.  I have a hard time thinking that anyone who chooses to play dead is dead would be concerned about having to redo something.

That would be extremely easy.  At that point, there is no reason at all to have hazards.  The challenges are a good option.  And since you only collect rewards from traders, you are still basically playing without traders.  And if you can't keep yourself from buying something from a trader when you collect your protection rewards, you could just use a mod to provide the rewards automatically after completing a challenge.  Or disable the whole hazard thing if it's such a big deal.

I hope the Perk Magazines are removed from random loot drops and get reworked into a separate challenge page allowing you to earn the books by specific challenges directed at the playstyle. Am i wrong for this?
You aren't wrong for having an opinion.  But it's not likely that they'd do that.  Many players enjoy having some RNG in the game.  We already lost a ton of RNG when schematics were removed in favor of magazines.  We don't need to lose even more.  If you aren't on console, it would probably be an easy XML mod to create your own challenges that reward the books.

How about a very very small chance that a player can get struck by lightning during a thunderstorm?

Like others here, I don't know if that would be a great idea.

I would prefer weather hazards like in Icarus or Forever Skies, where the weather hazards do damage to your base rather than the player. Lightning strikes in particular would pair well with Guppy's Fire Mod.

Yeeaaah, gray dead looking skin and burnt. If there were anything I'd a just is make his hood a burnt hood, still exposing

the upper torso with jagged sleeves. The wrap, decimated pants, that look almost melted to his flesh. Just for

geographic continuity.  He actually looks burnt.

The biome hazard protection kit is not an actual item. It doesn’t exist outside its special slot on the character screen. You can’t equip or unequip it. I’m not sure how you would make it a craftable item.

I wonder if it would be possible to make it appear as soon as the challenge is complete instead of needing to visit the trader.

Easiest would be to just leave the traders in the game and only use them briefly four times to get the kit. Not sure why people who supposedly hate the traders need to delete them from the world. Just don’t go through their gates….
