PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

A victim of their own success?

It's my impression that people are trying to say, "They intend to make a different game and can't seem to grasp that they MADE the game people wanted...already...and they should flesh THAT out...instead of plowing on, not listening."

So which alpha version is the game people wanted? Do you have any data about this? I know people like to use the community to infalte their own opinions, but it'd be nice to see some numbers about these issues.

7DTD has been successful for most of its life, including many early editions. It's been good enough for the majority of people. If the "game" people wanted is rough drafts and store assets, i would ask them to raise their standards. What do you see in these old versions? Whens the last time you played them? Do any of you remember the true esoterics enough to objectively prove they were superior?

I wanna do a poll too see but I dont think we can make polls anymore

I doubt there is consensus. As for data, that's the real trick. We're lacking in good data. Somebody once shared a potential source of Steam ratings data. I noticed that it can show ratings data back to 2016.

I also attempted (manually) to plot the game versions on that chart using the dates from the 7D2D news posts that I found here:

The result (hopefully accurate) was:

This chart will likely fuel more debate as it is open to lots of interpretation, including questioning the site's methods for data collection as that (at least to me) is a black box. Make of it what you will.

well...this the part where they said they were going to ask us... to help figure it out. So I got the same hard data as you.

A16 seems to be the most popular request...but...again...if they are not going to ask how will we really know? (besides all the posts we see)

@Double G already suggested this...people should go back and play the old console version. The vibe is a lot different.
I personally have played the old version recently, but, because "we" didn't get to play until last year, all this new content is not bothering me as much as it bothers the PC base. (that is an observation based on they were the ones who actually got to play it)

A poll would give very little indications as to how many people like or not like a version of the game, or changes, as the 7 Days forum represents a very small amount of people who play the game. Even on Reddit, X or Steam, it's still a very small amount of people compared to how many actually owns and plays 7 Days to Die, and most people there post to complain and not praise the game.

I would even dare say that some people here should be playing the game more and post less messages; maybe they would learn to like the new features and changes more by doing so.
Most of you are suppose to have families, girlfriends, jobs, etc. yet you are here, posting constantly... Where do find the time to actually play more than 2 minutes before you start complaining about something?

I say: Trust the Pimps!

As others have said, no one is truly going to be happy with any one version.
Be it a specific alpha, such as 16, or specific systems the pimps have changed completely or tweaked beyond recognition.

Personally for me, alpha 14.7 will always have a special place. That's when I started playing on the PS4 back in 2016. I absolutely fell in love with this game, have MANY hours of fond memories.

As each alpha progressed, sure there's many things I miss. I'll always defend learn by doing, it's by far my favorite system and the one that makes the most sense to me...and no I did not exploit it by spam crafting things to increase it's quality.

I'm trusting the direction the pimps are taking the game and will reserve my final judgement for when the game is fully finished.

To be honest, I'm fine with it taking so long. We get new and improved (sometimes not so much improved) game mechanics, systems, enemies, skills, etc, with each new iteration.

Tbh if they made a new learning system and added a new water systen and a few other things back. Ill be happy

@Pokketninja

there is a Luxury in that situation that is absent here...in your scenario only those involved have any knowledge of the project.
I prefer that. Less messy.

These guys crowd funded...so they should expect that they don't get the Luxury that you enjoy.

you can change the tempo, the genre, the voice singing it...and nobody will ever know.
They are doing the same thing only we can see them changing the genre...the tempo. and the people watching have developed strong attachments to past revisions.
It's not supposed to be taken as an all encompassing example. It's about how to go back and get an understanding of what was good about the previous version. We are the makers AND the audience. Later versions wouldn't have been made if participants didn't feel incomplete about the previous version as well as liking the new additions. That's when you go back, analyze, adjust and sacrifice what might've have been imagined as good ideas, but ultimately led to missing the mark.

But it also has to be taken into consideration that when creating something, if you get overly concerned with what the audience will think, you're screwed.

Unfortunate circumstance when it comes to the game being out and in alpha since 2013/2014. The game gets massively changed over the years, but players grow attached to what they've gotten used to for so long. Hopefully TFP can find a middle ground that will please most of the community who are upset right now.

From a dev blog and discussing to argumentum ad personam. Don't punish people for being passionate about the game. There are plenty of topics in Pimp Dreams section with my own created few days ago. Wish devs and the staff was bit more active there. It could possibly stop people complaining that much. Plenty of ideas there are way smarter than TFPs. So a word to the mad people there: try to post something about improving the game, it's much more productive.

They’re just suggestions and one thing that absolutely is true about this forum is that people can express their opinions and be challenged and expected to defend those opinions but not overwhelmed by toxic opposition. Sure, some are super sensitive and if you say “I disagree” they view it as a personal attack but in other forums if you suggest anything other than bringing jars back your family is getting cancer and dying in a house fire while you suck the dev’s toes…

We allow both types of dialogue here: criticism and support. If you only want criticism then go to every other message board where even the slightest support gets quite a bit more than some ambiguous “essentially” shutting up of people.

If you want a hybrid system then advocate for it. If you think making an option for harvesting water is bad then challenge the idea. But don’t pass it off as some conspiracy theory.

It is the tougher road and unlikely to please everyone whereas options are easier and can keep a larger portion of the player base satisfied.

So why not just do that? Oh yeah, because…

That’s exactly the reason I and others have suggested options as a solution. Not to ridicule anyone or shut anyone up but because this forum allows people to make suggestions of all types and discuss them. They’re just ideas made by people who are powerless to code them into the game anyway.

Don’t be so dramatic. People aren’t locked out of one thing or another. Every option can be changed before each play session if you decide you want it the other way. If I decide to have zombies run during the day and walk at night I can change that on Day 45 of my game. Nobody is locked out of anything and you can play a game with an option toggled one way and then play a game with it toggled the other.

I have a feeling that no matter what TFP decides to do with water gathering, jars, dew collectors, or whatever, that it'll take modding to get it the way *I* personally want it. So... meh... whatever.
