PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

it was me...I said That since he IS the guy who talks on here, he should maybe be on the stream if he was asked and wanted to. I would prefer it if the guy building it did some or maybe most of the talking. I believe he does know himself. lol. seriously though, a lot of people have pointed out to me that maybe Rick, Joel and Lathan are not really "involved" directly anymore. I don't know if that is true, I find it kinda hard to believe, but, not my words....still...faatal is the best person to speak about his work, again, a lot of people told me how important he actually is, and here I am saying they are right.
You can go in game and choose Credits and you'll know exactly what title everyone has.
Lathan, for example is credited with Programming, but they say Senior Programming in the the Dev Streams since he's been there for so long... Plus he does have lots of senior moments. 😁
Faatal (Shawn) is Lead Programming.

When Faatal has posted here, and has been asked a personal question
multiple times, he has replied. If it were up to me, ot that is not
exactly how I would.

Since there are only 3 known entities, that have the ability to influence
his decisions. It indicates an infamous they direction. Since he is direct
and does not deflect in his written speech, it points to a higher point of
influence. So they, are probably still involved in core thoughts.

They hired everyone else, in order to be able to delegate. Because the original
idea began to take on a life of it's own, and grew faster and beyond the control
of the original team.

The other thing that I think or thought about, is company structure, their company
is built of virtual satellite staff. That takes a lot of trust and individual integrity,
because there is no direct oversight, like in a stationary located company.

Disclaimer: Not insider information, just what I learned from the posts and streams,
over the years.

If I had one thought on survival, it would be failure. So far nothing fails or breaks,
nearly everything has a 100% success rate, except lock picks of course. If the same
failure rate math used with lock picks, was applied to making food, building a fire,
tiered weapons and armor, farming, tools, weapons, repair kits, etc. Repairing itself.

Crafting stations are 100% success with limited resource loss, and they are eternal. Yet
all around the game world there are broken stations. Although the first argument would
be the inconvenience of it, and making it grindy, with a tempered hand and a little restraint
from going to the dark side with the numbers, it could introduce a form of struggle, and
struggle is a part of survival, and it could touch every aspect equally.

I'd love to see the stream and love to have the hat collectible but this is 4AM for me.
I've done a lot of stupid ■■■■ but setting an alarm in the middle of the night for a purple hat doesn't work for me.

Any other way to get the collectible, this is the third one at an impossible time for me.
I don't know if it's true since I don't care about getting that, but I think if you have it set up to start watching ahead of time, it'll join automatically for you when it starts and as long as you have accounts linked and whatever else is necessary, it'll log that you were there and you can still get the drop. Please don't take that to mean it's going to work. But it's worth trying.

There's no purpose in saying a human being is more valuable than another, specially in this game. Everybody in The Fun Pimps have contributed to the game to various degrees, and all of those degrees are fun. Yes, faatal's work is extremely important, also pretty tedious most of the time. Yes, his skills in programming are best among the team, not because of knowledge but work ethics (a good programmer is not only who solves issues and creates systems by coding, but also the one who organizes his code in an easy-to-follow and easy-to-read manner, which saves time in many ways). He is even better that Robert The Legend was (may his soul cheerfuly kills Zds in the heavens with a pickaxe) just because he's an old hag and has more experience (lol).

Steven... good one in the making but.... who cares about him, right? he doesn't participate in the forums therefore he doesn't exist to trolls. Lathan? ... meh....adows because he's the direct cause of us having just 3 quests and a half and he is so bored of this game that he won't do any more than those related to bandits, even though even a meager Fetch could be SO MUCH more (lore notes, failure if read but hidden rewards, fetch various items etc) . I love me some leg pulling now and them but TRUTHS like the sky all of the above.

Edit: There are other cool Pimps that do shapes, particle systems, animations, UI, various code tasks, items... etc. Those skills, are plenty on planet Earth among game developers and their main task above others must always be their love for the game. That is paramount to the success of this title. I can see the passion in their eyes when they talk. Specialization is key in this industry.

Wait, what's the deal with a hat unlock? This is an in-game DLC kind of thing? I generally don't watch Twitch live, just watch a recording later that I can jump around in, but if that purple hat is free DLC for watching I can show up.

Yes, it's a cosmetic you can get to use in the game. It is only cosmetic and doesn't drop, and you have to be wearing some kind of head armor.

That's pretty cool. I'd want to hear what they have to say one way or the other, might as well watch live. Do you know how getting it works? Link a steam account to a twitch account?

Here you go.

Now that people had trouble with it, so you might want to also scan the general support forum for posts about the twitch drop to see what people did to get it to work.

Is that Hold/Tap a new thing that's being worked on? The way you worded it ("which we have") seems like you're saying it's already an option in the game. Maybe I'm misunderstanding? Right now, it's just On or Off. And that only really refers to whether or not the sprint lock disables when you stop holding a movement key. You can't currently prevent tapping sprint causing it to enable the sprint lock right now.
Off is now named Hold (it also triggers on tap). On is now Toggle. Different names, same functionality.

Okay, so then back to my original comment... What about an option to fully disable it so it can't be enabled at all (sprint lock, not sprint)? There have been a number of people who have posted about having trouble with it enabling when they didn't want it to. Personally, I've never had a problem with it, but it seems like a small thing to add a fully disabled option.

Hey @faatal, I don't remember if this has already been discussed, but is there a plan to move to a smooth pathing algorithm for zombies at some point?
There's a mod for it (and it's awesome, thanks @redbeardt), but I feel like this should be vanilla, especially since console users, for instance, can't use mods. (Asking for a friend.)
Dan? 👈

Nope. I think the pathing is fine and don't want to spend the time or the performance or potential bugs/exploits changing it. Maybe if I am bored some years from now it might be fun to toy with.

@faatal

I really like the extended timing you all have added to the zombies getting up.
It has inspired me to remove my xp counter, because when in a group especially a horde
it makes knowing unsure as to if they are faking or dead. Especially since they don't always
have a death animation. It's given me some ideas. Thanks

Question: If you can amputate arms and legs, the crawler is an amputated torso guts dragging,
and the cop becomes an eviscerated mess. What stopped the inclusion of basic decapitation in the game?
Like a double barrel to the face at point blank or a machete to the neck, leaving a headless corpse
flailing until it bleeds out.

I do realize there is amount of gore that is considered acceptable, or politically correct but the
three examples that are in the game, actually include it all. Just that the decapitation is made less obvious and
camouflaged by the explosion.

If you later add any more body part removals can you include the hands. Visually spraying
blood as they proceed to swing at the player, and having blood spatter on the screen, using
the same mechanic as the personal overlays. The spray when bleeding is incurred now could hit the screen if close
enough.

Just a gore option, for those that would not like it, they can leave it turned off.
I asked our dismemberment programmer and all bladed weapons will chop off a head. The shotgun just uses blunt attack type so it does not.

Gore was a ton work for our artists and one of our programmers, so new types of dismemberment are not planned.

I won't bother talking about storms and biome progression since they are getting changes made to them, so any comments now don't really matter. Besides, they are options. Disable them if you don't like them. A couple points...

  • 1.0 was a year ago, not two. In fact, it wasn't even a full year ago.
  • So you got hurt by the new zombie tiers? Oh, no! So that means you have to actually try instead of being in easy mode? The horror! I actually find the blue zombies to be very easy. Their speed doesn't really make them more difficult, and I can kill them just as quickly as any other zombies... using my spear. The orange ones may take a little extra to kill, but they aren't that bad either.
  • You also mentioned the reward for killing cops. That isn't new. It has been that way since challenges were added back in 1.0. I'm also not convinced that the wasteland is giving any better loot than in the past. It's always given you really good loot. But now you are kept from going there immediately on day 1. And maybe it took you longer to reach there than in the past, so you were a higher game stage and loot stage, making it seem like better rewards than in the past, even though nothing changed.
  • Storms increase the range zombies will notice you (their "hearing"), so you can be attacked more often than without the storm. It's 2x versus having feral sense enabled, which is 2.5x. So it isn't a horde, but you'll still have a better chance of being attacked more often.
We have a lot of changes in progress for storm buffs and biome hazard unlocking. Like biome unlocks will not be chained together and be craftable for friends.

My hope is we end up making the snow/wasteland even more difficult meaning even tougher zombies, but would like it balanced with even better late game player power. Walking into the wasteland early game should absolutely kick your butt.

My plan is to refresh some biome spawns on storm start so you have more buddies to hear you.

I happen to hate your product. So much so that I have invested years of my precious free time playing it. I bought the DLC too just so everyone knows just how much I hate it. In your face, TFP! Haha! I am going to go back to playing your dumb little game and guess what? I have Storms and Biome Progression on. That's right. No one tells me what to do (except my mother)!
Well, cool! I hope you continue to hate what sounds like one of your favorite games for years to come!

Seriously though, we have good things coming for storms and biome progression as we don't like some of it either. The joys of trying to get a lot of stuff done and pushed out the door.

just 1 point on all that - sure let's disable the new stuff and have no new stuff in our favorite zombie game. So then a year to add 2 new zombies and add 2 new color schemes to existing zombies, is that what 2.0 is then? Impressive, no matter how you look at it....

But imagine if instead of adding this crap devs would actually add more weapons and gear and vehicles, now that would be a great update and wouldn't have to work overtime trying to undo the crap they did to save steam reviews. And before you advise to install mods, which I do, of course, our plebeian console players get no such luxury, for them it's vanilla all day long and right now vanilla is in a terrible state.
Did you read the release notes?
