PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

I would choose better names and I've that fit better, but yes. Changing the burnt forest one to a dust mask or something like that or even a banana over the mouth, the desert to something that would cool you down (a hat with a fan just for jokes 🤪), snow to a parka or warm gloves or snow pants, wasteland to a radiation suit.

Is this a priority? No. Is it really that important? No. Would it be an improvement? Absolutely, and at very little cost. As I said when they first started calling them badges, this game isn't Pokemon.

It isn't really a question about whether or not it can be done. Yes, it can be done. The question is about whether or not it is worth the time required to do it. I would rather see this game completed than to spend a lot of time making bandits drive vehicles. They are only going to be in your active chunks anyhow, so it isn't like they are patrolling the map. I don't really think it is worth the effort for what in the end is mostly just a visual. I would be fine with them having vehicles at the POI they are at and using them for cover, or even for them to have a stationary jeep with a mounted machine gun that they use. But driving just seems like a waste of time this late in development.
I'm not saying that it should be done first. It would just be a nice addition and variety.

They seem to be planning to support the game after the roadmap. This could be added after

I understand that it is difficult. But I think something can be done about it.
I mean, anything could be done. Sophisticated AI takes a toll on performance. That's the kicker. Of course, I'm not a game developer, though. Perhaps it wouldn't be as big of a hit since we're talking about a single vehicle. I'm just basing that off of what we've heard in the past that certain changes have been made to zombie AI because of the performance cost.

1 - We have discussed badge name/description and art changes, so we may be doing something there.

2 - Yes, I don't think the reward vs time cost is worth it. Possibly as you said, in bases and controlled limited use cases.

But wouldn't it destroy immersion in your example when there was a hat depicted in the icon but you would be wearing a totally different one? And what about the hat being able to work in the burnt forest as well, just like a dust mask?

The hat was just to be funny. I don't have an idea for desert. But I think most people who don't like the depiction of badges wouldn't be complaining if they were depicted as something that makes sense. After all, the original description by faatal of a protection kit went over well, and it was stated that it acted the way badges do now... Not changing how you look and just protecting you from the biome hazards.

Will there be people who still complain about immersion? Of course. We will never get away from them. But I think most who don't like how badges are repeated will be fine if they look the part.

Either way, faatal said they are discussing changes to the name and icon, so we will see what they decide. I'm guessing they'll go for something that makes sense. No reason to change it otherwise.

I would rather see this game completed
This I agree with, only two more chapters to go. Bandits and story.
Story incorporation will be interesting, especially in this environment.
Bandits driving, I didn't really expect it, but if I don't ask I won't know, and Faatal is straightforward and honest
with his answers.
The picture that comes to mind, after reading @ElCabong 's recent post it players trying to run over as many
pedestrian bandits as possible.

I expect bandits to be released in two or maybe three progressing batches.

The first one could be just roaming bandits you can encounter in the streets (like smaller wandering hordes) and wilderness.
The second batch could be adding bandits to (some) POIs, since it's a lot more work for the POI creators and needs balancing.
The third batch would probably be (mostly) bug fixing and tying up the first two parts with the story.

Don't know either whether the icon has a tooltip or anything. But the badge is surely mentioned in the respective challenges tab as reward, probably in help texts and when you get it as a reward by the trader. Those are places where your immersion sense would get tested.
Well, when you get a badge, there really is some name there. I even read it the first time I played it, but when I played it again, I pressed the "pick up" button and didn't look.
The overall atmosphere, music, sounds, and so on still have a greater impact on immersion in this game.
