PC Unique Selling Point

In Duke Nukem Forever you could throw poop. There even was an achievement for hitting someone with it i think... Waiting for something similar in 7DTD @.@

For just about every single system you can name some game that did this one thing better... but did not keep your attention for long because that was all it did. ;)

The current content of voxel world and variety in fully explorable and destructible POI - that would be hard to beat for any other game.

But IMO that is not the one thing that defines 7D.

Defining the USP as a technical feature, rather than in terms of functionalities / gameplay for the end user, seems very poor in terms of marketing.

What does voxel allow players to do, that they cannot do in non-voxel games ?

You can have a noticeable and visible impact on the world which in most games is impossible.

Its simply the best survival co op game we've played. The RWG (even as bad as it is) always gives us a new unique playthrough. Once we hit day 50ish or so it gets samy because we can go anywhere, and there isn't much we need resource or item wise.

The new farming mod does add a lot of end game things to do..tons of crops, livestock, and fun recipes to try. I look forward to being able to box a zombie bear and win.

I've described 7DtD to friends as being "a graphically superior Minecraft with zombies". I'm sure we'd agree that there is more to the game than that, but I've done that since the early Alphas and most people agree with that description.

As for a USP? That's much tougher. "Open World" is an odd one as anyone who has been playing games as long as I have, has seen the way the environments have changed from being flat sprite 2D platforms to psuedo-3D polygons to modern real time rendering of genuine 3D worlds. The idea that 7DtD's USP is open world doesn't really stack up as even games that traditionally wouldn't suit that format are now regularly presented with it. What's more, I can knock up an "open world" game within several days purely down to the amount of libraries and assets for things like Unity or Unreal. In that sense it's simply not a unique element of it. What about voxels? Is that a USP? Well sort of, but it's not like being voxel based is all that unique, aside from the obvious Minecraft there are quite a few.

No, I think USP has to be moved from the literal to the abstract. It's the feel of the game, rather than the functionality that gives it it's USP. The horror overtone, the branding and merch. In the same way something like DayZ which has a smaller playerbase than 7DtD - although for all sorts of reasons we won't go into here - where the USP is not just the game but it's profile.

Random maps, random loot, random situations.

The keyword is "random" and that's what keeps me playing since 2013 ;)

Seriously? This thread in questions? Because it ends with a question mark? It is clearly a general discussion topic...
Context seems to be lost on whomever is moving threads. The questions section should be for titles like: "How do I set the graphics settings to get better frames". Or things of that nature. The context of this thread is obviously to spark general discussion.

oh well.

Yes, also wondering why it was moved.

If I was asking TFP specifically what they thought the USP was, I would have posted in questions, but this is a question for everyone else to discuss, for TFP's benefit / interest.

I think for a lot of people, what defines 7D depends on when they started playing.

We started in a16 so for me and my group what defines 7D is an unpredictable harsh randomized game start, unpredictable loot\schematic based progression, LBD skills with a mix of straightforward perks, RWG town\city\wilderness exploration, tower defense base construction and design, killer horror \ comedy mix, and all in a great multiplayer coop package.

Which is why we and others completely bounced off of a17 because most of these things were removed \ changed \ broken \ dampened.

Being able to enter every building and destroying it if a please!

And randomness! Not knowing what loot or book you find and adapting to it. Which made the replayability great!

And moding.

Thats not really a "unique" selling point, as everyone and their cat know that Minecraft popularized this game-mechanic. (a procedurally generated fully changable voxel world).

The most unique point overall is the "explore - gather - build-base - defend horde on 7th day" gameloop in this genre. - Mixing a sandbox survival game with a base-defense game.

I used to tell people you don´t need to be good at FPS games. Well, that can´t be said anymore. This is heading so hard towards FPS that everything else is just a small bonus.
