Unable to Get Past Loading Screen for Game

Hi all,

If I miss posting info needed, please do not beat me up. I am trying to follow all the rules in the pinned thread. I've been a player of 7DTD for quite some time. I have played solo, hosted multiplayer and dedicated server multiplayer (hosted externally). My issue today is with a dedicated server that is hosted externally. I was able to get the dedicated server online, no issues. However, when I go to connect to the server, it does complete the handshake, but never gets past the loading screen. Yesterday, it got stuck at "starting game". Today it is stuck at "Creating Player". I don't have any mods. Just vanilla game.

I am running Windows 10, playing 7DTD via Steam. I am normally running on VPN, but I have also tried without the VPN on. I have tried to connect on two different machines, and with the same result. Other steps taken include:

  • Turning off EAC in launcher, and serverside.
  • Verifying game integrity files
  • Creating new save games on server
  • Removing old saves from A19 locally.
  • Updated Steam locally and server side
  • Opened ports for the game and Steam (even though I shouldn't need to do this)
  • Tested with Windows Firewall off
  • Confirmed IPV6 is not on and causing conflict

I was able to get into the server twice last night, both times with the VPN off, but also had trouble connecting previous to that test, and then I am still unable to connect with it off today. I had someone else test the server, and they were able to get into it just fine...so it's not looking like a server issue. There has to be something locally causing the issue.

I can connect to a solo game, and also was able to host my own local game with someone else.

Internet speeds do not seem to be the issue.

  • With VPN  - latency 77.7ms, Download speed 36.42 Mbps, 91% stability, upload 30.86Mbps,, 91% stability, jitter 6ms
  • Without VPN - latency 50.3ms, Download speed 44.29Mbps, 94% stability, upload 46.83Mbps, 96%stability, jitter 4ms

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all,

I was able to resolve the issue. Apparently, having any ports forwarded at all was a problem for me. I removed them, rebooted the router, and left the Universal Plug and Play option enabled on my router, and I am able to connect without issue at this time.
