u guys screwed 3.0.1

This might be one of oddest posts I've seen here. Heh.

Biome zombies spawn anywhere other than in POI or inside a protected area (e.g. on building blocks). That's been that way for a LONG time. And if *that* is enough to not play the game, then this obviously wasn't the right game for you to begin with. Btw, no one cares if you play the game or not. We don't know you and we don't care what you do. Posting about not playing is really very pointless.

You need to place a land claim block. That prevents zombies from spawning. Screamer horde zombies and blood moon horde zombies can still spawn though.
Land claim doesn't prevent biome zombies from spawning on terrain. Bedrolls do, but the often have limited range compared to LCBs, though that can be changed.

You guys screwed up, because now zombies are spawning on nearly vertical mountains where I was planning to build a base. ty for ruine my planning baze
to lazy to answer this meself lets see what chatgpt says

If you mean how long zombies have been in 7 Days to Die as a game, they've been there since the very first playable version.

  • 🧟 Alpha 1.0 (private alpha for Kickstarter backers) — August 16, 2013. Zombies were the core enemy from day one.
  • 🧟 Alpha 5.0 (Steam Early Access) — December 13, 2013, bringing the zombie survival experience to the public.

That means zombies have been part of 7 Days to Die for:

  • Since Alpha 1 (2013)
  • Over 13 years as of 2026.

It's interesting to see how they've evolved:

VersionZombie Highlights
Alpha 1Basic zombie AI and models.
Alpha 8Major animation overhaul.
Alpha 11Added Feral Zombies.
Alpha 15Introduced UMA zombie variations (later removed).
Alpha 18Rage/enrage mechanics, improved AI.
Alpha 19–21Extensive visual and model overhauls.
1.0+ (formerly Alpha 22)New texture system, appearance variations, more polished animations and gore.

how long have they been on the sides of cliffs and mountains:

If you mean wandering zombies spawning on the sides of cliffs, mountains, and steep hillsides, they've essentially always been able to.

From the earliest alpha versions, the biome spawning system has used valid terrain blocks, not "flat ground" checks. When Random World Generation introduced proper mountains and cliffs in Alpha 9 (August 2014), zombies began spawning on those new terrain features as part of the normal biome spawn system.

There have been improvements over the years:

  • Alpha 7–8 (2014): Smooth terrain was introduced, making slopes and hills much more natural.
  • Alpha 9: Random worlds added large mountains, cliffs, rivers, and valleys. Zombies could spawn on this terrain because it was treated as natural ground.
  • Later alphas (A18–A21 and beyond): AI pathfinding and terrain navigation improved, but the spawning logic itself still allows natural terrain spawns.

If you're referring to zombies standing halfway up a near-vertical mountainside, that's generally considered an artifact of the terrain spawning system rather than an intentional feature. The game picks a valid natural terrain block, even if it's on a very steep slope, so you can end up seeing zombies perched on cliff faces.

Since you mod 7DTD, are you asking because you're looking to prevent biome zombies from spawning on steep terrain (e.g. only allow spawns on slopes below a certain angle), or are you asking about the history of the mechanic?
