Are people not using the trader or the quests he gives to get items and levels faster? Selling stuff to the trader grants alot of exp if you sell gas barrels, weapons, bullets and other stuff then use the money to buy better armor and weapons like the fire axe, knife or machete if he has them for sale.
Also some perks IMO aren't good for early game. By level 5 a Good set of perks and attributes to have are strength at level 3, skull crusher 2, sexual tyrannosaurus which also helps lower stamina cost when harvesting, intelligence, master chef and barter.
Perks like mother load, miner 69, pack mule to me are useless due to the fact they don't offer much of a boost, the pack mule perk is useless because the encumbrance debuff is only noticeable when you have 1 row of inventory space left and I say that since I'm usually going around with almost a full inventory.
