When tracking a recipe it should highlight needed items when you open an inventory, or for an even stronger will add some sort of signifier to storage crates that contain the item you need, and you have access to.

The game doesn't need to hold peoples hands. There are things that are beneficial and worth changing for QoL, but changes just so people don't have to take a couple of seconds to look aren't really something they should spend time adding to vanilla. Organize your inventory crates and it won't be difficult to quickly find whatever you want. And if it's in your inventory, you don't even need to find it because it'll craft from your inventory anyhow.

There seem to be plans to add crafting from containers at some point that will make it so you don't have to find anything as long as the containers are close enough. That would solve your request in a way that's more beneficial.

I agree, most recipes are only 5 items so I organize my crates accordingly.
