PC Too Many Radiation Zombies ?

So I play with 2 other friends. I usually stay inside to build/craft/cook/hunt, and they go out and loot buildings.

We're in the 80-90 level range, and they've been complaining the game has really gotten tough--too many radiation zombies for them to kill/survive. For example, they'll raid a Pop N Pills and hit 7 radiation zombies, which is quite a bit for a building that's small. It just gets worse for bigger buildings, they're starting to feel like it's not worth the effort to loot inside any building because the threat is too great.

Opinions?

This is a bug in gamestages.xml that was fixed in 17.2. Actually no radioactive zombies should appear in this amount so early in the game. At most very isolated.

I would say just set feral zombies to walk or jog during the day until your friends have the appropriate equipment to fight the radioactive zombies properly.

I think the rationale is that since you and your friends are stronger, you are more capable of fighting more irradiated zombies, and should therefore be forced to fight more irradiated zombies, because that's a way to keep the zombies as a threat.

It's a little bit like how they spammed copies of Agent Smith in The Matrix sequels in order to keep him a threat, while still allowing for character progression.

Ah. The game is 17.1, and a stable 17.2 hasn't dropped yet. So as soon as it does, the save file should update, or I can decide to download the beta version.

There have been a couple of threads recently on this subject:

- feels like the game is punishing me for levelling

- loot runs not worth it in later games

and basically it all boils down to the same thing: because of the way the pimps have decided to handle zombie spawns, the higher you are, the tougher the spawns. And that includes in POIs. Basically POIs end up being ferals/iradiated exclusively, and the same with horde nights. SO eventually, in an effort to avoid bullet sponges, you get a whole bunch of bullet sponges.

And it's NOT worth raiding POIs, because you'll use more resources getting in than you'll ever get back out, because one things that doesn't level up: loot

So the threat only ever gets tougher and tougher, but nothing else scales with it to the same degree.

Your friends are right. And this won't get any better as you level.

You can opt in now. You just have to go into the game settings on steam and opt into experimental.

This has been solved AFAIK in 17.2 as I have had no such issues yet. The update did nothing to my game either - it was started in 17.1. As a matter of fact, I would suggest updating mid game for this update (sorry TFP - I know you prefer new games on testing) as RWG is totally borked in 17.2. To the point of uselessness. Next update should fix that as well.

Yeah exactly.

Possibly we're going to need weapons with levels or more tiers .... or something.

The ones we get in game just aren't cutting it later on.

I don't mind harder zombies, I just want to see a balance with gear and resources.

Right now the only way to mitigate the mess TFP have created is to Mod the game in some way.

I've got a higher tier of weapons and tools modded in and I find it's fun.

It's not game breaking or taking the fun out of anything.

Hopefully TFP come around.

I've been through several worlds on 17.2, and by the second horde night we are getting swarmed by the radioactive zombies. Literally over run by them to the point where no one wants to bother trying to fight on horde night. Instead we all go hide somewhere safe.

7 Rads. omg call the cops. I assume someone in your group was full combat-specced, right? Seriously 7 Rads should be *nothing* to a combat-specced char. Man-up. l2p etc. There needs to be more Rads not less, as the game is a walk in the park right now for full combat-specced chars.

At the end of day, if you really cannot handle 7 Rads between you, it's time to turn the difficulty down a step. Why complain about something when the game has a setting right there to deal with it?

Finally, in threads like these, you need to tell us your gamestage, as nothing else really means anything (including what day it is and your current level).

FYI...

There is a bug fix that stops radiated from taking over at a way early gamestage.

Can we stop telling people to man up? And an over population of Rad's has been commented on heavily in A17. For you 7 may be nothing. For them maybe it's rough. And there's no way to know what you're situation is and what theirs is. You may be on day 100 fully speced up and geared to brawl. Maybe they're on day 30.

A lot of responses but I'll generally address you.

I don't loot with them much, so I'm representing them, but this is essentially their feelings. Loot isn't getting any better, it's just become a lot harder to get it and they're feeling like they're wasting their time trying to get in and out anymore, especially when death quickly follows....

...which brings me to my next point. One of them enjoys the use of bow & arrows, then a crossbow when they get it. Do you think the game should be more punishing for using these type of weapons vs a rifle, even with steel bolts? I tried to make the argument that they should be relatively weaker vs a firearm, but I'm not sure that was the original intention of the Pimps or this is the line of thinking to have.

To answer the dissenter, one is a ranged character who has invested heavily into scavenging and the trader, the other is a ranged who has invested heavily into survival (and complains that the temperature skills don't seem to help with the wild back & forth temperature system).

Out of curiosity, how far were you guys into your play through? What day were you on? What was your average levels? 7 Rad Zombies facing 3 level 20 players is going to suck. Heavily. 7 Rad zombies facing 3 level 120 players... It's actually a pretty different situation. So curious what you guys were at to get a better picture of your experience and situation.

I was on day 30 once you know.

That's why I asked the gamestage. Only gamestage and difficulty setting matters.

Day 78. 2x level 87, and a level 69~ or so. 69 & 88 out trying to loot.

I started the thread "game feels like its punishing me for levelling up". now i'm level 160, game stage 495, it no longer feels that way and i enjoy gaining a level. i can pretty much wade in like the netflix season 1 punisher episode 1 where he does gods work with the sledgehammer. i do feel your pain though its a PITA to get to that point.

i recommend focusing on fortitude and strength. specifically, for fortitude get points in healing factor to counter how annoying often zombies make you bleed now (WTF), heavy armor, pain tolerance. also invest a few points in living off the land plus a point in medicine. you're going to need to setup an aloe vera farm and craft bandaids for the annoying loss of max HP via bleeding. for strength, put points in head shot and heavy weapons. once you can stun lock greens, its a matter of picking them off one at a time. if ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan activate your AOE power attack and run, then use your sniper rifle or something similar to aggro in one at a time once youre at a safe distance. as they aggro in, slug em to death.

These numbers are impossible are they not. I hit level 100 on day 30 in A17, more or less every run, and without really trying to power level. So being level 87 on day 78 doesn't add up.

But let's give you the benefit of the doubt....regardless of level, day 78 and you are complaining about 7 Rads. Ridiculous.

If you're like the 80% majority that play 40-60 minute game times, maybe. Ours are set to 30 (used to play 20).
