Toggle sprint bug

Sprint keeps being toggled on regardless of the option being on. I saw it happen to another streamer (JonahBirch) during the streamer weekend. Game has been cleaned installed including deleting the appdata folder so it's not on my end. Seems like not everybody experiences the bug so I'm not sure what is causing it.

I think i know what you mean i hope this is a bug....

I have my sprint lock set to NO aswell but...

If you hold down sprint for less then 1-2 seconds you keep sprinting.

(If i am not mistaken) tapping sprint once also keeps sprinting.

If you try sprinting for more then a few second then release it you stop sprinting.

If its the same for you we might need to bug report it this since its repeatable for me.

CLARIFICATION OF THE SETTING

  • The sprint lock setting does NOT prevent sprint lock from being used.  This is intentional.
  • Sprint lock will toggle on if you tap Shift while moving.  It might require a couple taps on occasion because it's sensitive.
  • If the sprint lock setting is disabled, then sprint lock will be turned off when you stop pressing a movement key.  When you start moving again, you will not be sprinting (assuming you're not holding the sprint key, of course).
  • If the sprint lock setting is enabled, then sprint lock will NOT be turned off when you stop pressing a movement key.  When you start moving again, you will be sprinting without having to turn on sprint lock again.

I don't even understand why this sprint toggle button is needed. I lived without it for years. I could hit a zombie and run away with a short dash, but now I literally run into zombies in close combat after kiting.

Usually in games you can set up a separate toggle and a separate "push-to-run", but now I was literally forced to use it. It's very annoying.

And yes, it really does stick and won't turn off. In my case, I installed this game only now, and before that I hadn't played for a year.

You might need to provide details because I use this regularly and it never sticks in a way that it isn't intended to.

Yeaah. This is a major bug at least for me. I really hate that the sprint remains on after holding it for more than half a second or so. It takes up to 4 presses of shift just to turn it off. I don't understand is this a bug or a feature but it's really bad and annoying.

Sprint lock doesn't exactly help especially if you want to control your dashes more dynamically. Please fix this devs !

Sprint lock shouldn't turn on by holding sprint.  It should turn on by tapping sprint.
Yes obviously. But people who aren't using sprint lock for more dynamic movement, now encounter an issue that shouldn't be present there.
You should just be able to sprint when holding the shift button and stop when not holding it. Now if you hold sprint you end up sprinting but if you stop holding it, you continue sprinting without it stopping unless you click shift multiple times when moving.

Must be a bug because I've never had that happen.  I hold sprint often (still a habit even though there's now a sprint lock option) and it never enables sprint lock unless I tap it.  Or maybe there's a keyboard specific setting that some people have that is triggering it for some reason.  If there isn't a bug report about it, one should be made.

I am having the exact same problem.

There needs to be an option to completely disable sprint lock!

Although it probably isn't this, is there any chance you are running into an issue with Sticky Keys or with a keyboard driver feature that will lock your shift key if held down for a certain period of time?  You would expect this type of issue to affect everyone if it's not connected to specific hardware/drivers/etc.  Maybe if those of you with this problem post what keyboard you are using, it can help to find the cause.  If nothing else, maybe a dev can get the same keyboard and see if they can reproduce the problem.

I can rule that out, as it does not happen on a vehicle... The vehicles only "sprint" as long as i keep shift pressed and instantly goes slow again as soon as i release shift.

We do have a bug report where if you use shift + R to open the blocks menu it will activate sprint lock

This can also happen with the steam overlay (shift + tab)

Are you guys doing either the above or aware of any other shift + [something] combination to activate programs outside of the game?

I do indeed use shift + R, when i am building on my base. When i am out looting tho, i do not build a base :)
I also don't use the steam overlay.

The problem started with 1.0, in all other alpha releases i did not have the problem.

They were also wondering about any other possible Shift combinations you might use besides the expected ones of Shift-WASD or Shift-Arrows.  Perhaps a miskey of Shift-Q or Shift-E or something?  Anything you can think of that might help them track down the problem would be useful.

This wouldn't have been a problem before 1.0 because there wasn't a shift lock before 1.0.

So in my case, I don't really use hotkeys. I mean yeah there is one that opens the steam overlay shift+ tab, but that's about it.

I also purchased a new keyboard (not because of the game lol) and the issue persists. I have the keyboard shotcut for Sticky keys disabled, so that the warning wouldn't show up every time I press shift a bunch of times.

Otherwise I haven't been able to connect this to anything from my side other than this problem appearing with the full 1.0V release.
Does this issue only occur to some users but not all ? I'm curious whether everyone has this issue or only the minority.

I would only appear after 1.0 because that's when the shift lock was added to the game.  And it does seem to only affect certain users, and I'm going to *guess* that it's a very small number of users since there aren't many people commenting on this.  I've never had a problem and 3 people I know who play the game never have a problem with it, though one of those usually plays with a controller, so doesn't really count.  It's why I was asking about Sticky Keys or similar accessibility controls that might be enabled for some people but not others.  And unfortunately, I doubt the log would really show anything in this instance since I don't think it displays when you use shift lock.

It is *possible* that this relates to some mod people are using.  Maybe a UI mod or even just some mod in any way related to movement, even indirectly.  That could be another piece of information each of you who have this problem could provide.  Maybe there's some overlap in mods that would help to show what is causing it if it is a mod.

I never modded 7DTD.

I gave it a try to fully reinstall the game as well. But no luck.

Additionally I discovered this little cool bug with dynamic scaling. Not too sure if anyone else experiences this tho.

Before i updated to 1.0 i deleted all data with the launcher and i do not have any mods/modlets installed.

I think the movement might be working as intended, but i really only want to sprint when i press shift. Just like it was before.
