Tips for Sound Overhaul Mod

Hi all,

I'm a sound designer/composer and I'm looking to make a sound overhaul mod. I'm going to start by looking at the modding guides but if anyone has any helpful hints or tips please let me know. Aside from replacing the existing sounds/music, I'd also like to add more music and if possible have it triggered contextually based on either environment or interaction. That part may be way out of my league so any advice in that space would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks folks!

Unfortunately, this forum appears to be inactive. I am unsure of what advice to offer at this time. As a regular user, I would like to encourage you to consider other platforms such as Reddit r/7daystodie and Nexus. While I am not aware of any similar discussions on these platforms, I am confident that the community there can provide assistance.

Good advice, thank you!

You can certainly visit the Guppy's Unofficial Modding Discord for further advice. There are numerous discussion topics, and even if this one isn't specifically covered it can be addressed since a number of coders can look deeper under the surface.

There is also a mod from KhaineGB which allows us to use custom menu music. It is helpful for overhauls with a Waltzing Matilda type used in an Aussie Outback Roadies Mod, and a Wild West type theme used in the Wild West Mod. Look for 'Custom Main Menu Music'. It is a lot of fun to add your own.

Replacing existing sounds/music can be somewhat performed through the sounds.xml which I can confirm as I do it quite a lot, and possibly dmscontent.xml but it looks rather limited. However, adding your own music and sfx is very much doable and can be added in novel ways such as being triggered inside buildings using custom blocks.
