PC Thrown Flares - for temporary light source

Hello - i think it would be great if devs would add thrown Flares to the game - imho they would be great during the bloodmoons - early on. At that point if your normal lighting would be destroyed (esp during cop blasts) you could throw a flare and have some temporary light source handy.

As you know during blood moons its kinda not advisable to get to the ground to replace lost lights (aka candles, torches etc).

It would also give ppl some resaon to spend nitrate early on in the game.

Well the bloodmoon itself gives quite alot of light and keep in mind that u can always pop up the Gamma a little bit if its too dark.

I had to pop the gamma up 3-4 steps because BM is DARK. Normally there's plenty of moonlight to see by at midnight, but once my molotovs ended up knocking out my own torches, I had to crank that setting up or I would have had to take a wash on the whole night and sit it out doing nothing.

I would have LOVED to not have to do either, and had access to some flares so I could see WTF I was doing in the game instead of Black Screen Simulator (with zombie noises) and not tamper with the graphics settings.

I'm really enjoying the black menace of the game. That should have read blackness, but Google just screwed me over, but black menace works well too.

Don't get me wrong, we need the ability to create light, which is why I like the idea of throwing torches or flares.

 
Sure mate - have a go at it ;) -> and have fun - I guess i shall have a knack at it too - but imho smth like that should be in the vanilla game :)

This could be much more clever if it had the rock physics where if you light it, it fizzes and attracts zombies (even after throwing it far).

 
That's the plan. I asked khaine to rig up a torch I made for this purpose ... Throw it, it obeys physics, fizzles out over a short time.

Well since i was in a hurry i just copied a molotov code renamed it to flare and deleted some lines from it - for eg intially it has a line about exploding on impact ive set it to false - and removed all the damage lines - so now i ccan throw molotov - and its a movable object that gives off a bit of light (but not too much) and it can be picked up for later use :) added a recipe to make it and voilla - my own rudimentary flares :p (im sure this can be done in some other wasy as well but it was kinda lazy today :p ). Cheers.

imho devs should make the torches throwable in the same manner in vanilla game (no one is using them to fight anyway) and that would make them more usefull. Cheers

Haven't tried in A17, but I do recall back in A15, you could throw torches on the ground which would achieve a similar effect as the flare implementation you speak of?

And here are some pics of my own design :) - basically you throw them in similiar manner - they can roll and fall - but they wont vanish you can pick them up later and re-use them :)

Im just amazed that no one actually made flares before - it seemed kinda obvous and utilitarian idea :p Especially early on when decent light sourcess are problematic Cheers

PS if you want a possible challange - you could work on a flare gun - aka you shoot from it onto the sky - the projectile explodes and forms a light source which slowly drops on a parachute lighting large area while its in flight - and when it hits the ground it vanishes :)

Yeh I'ma do flares next, I figured this was a quick and dirty Proof of Concept, but it ended up taking me a few hours. Lol. But, flares will be next. I plan to texture krzosulla on the flares, too, like a brand name, because I'm stealing your request. =)
