PC This game BADLY needs Steam Workshop integration

No mod needs the mod launcher if you aren't a potato who knows how to copy, paste and unzip files.

It's that simple.

Go learn to use a PC. Because a lot of us overhaul makers are tired of answering the same question when 7DTD updates.

"The mod updates and broke my game!"
"Did you update 7DTD?"
"No, I thought the launcher would do it."
"Well it doesn't. Stop using the launcher and then you won't have this problem."
and another guy  will say " use game launcher because some mods can't not work without it" so i hear 2 diffrent opinions now. I know update can destroy game if mod is added - even to l4d2 well this is normal.  Just i'm saying workshop will be the best option  to avoid problem with mods - you will have everything  in one place no mod launcher needed just click to sub that's all

No mod requires the launcher. It's just usually suggested for certain mods, such as ones that use DMT as it can make it easier for people who don't know what they are doing. But it doesn't do any magic you cannot do yourself.

^ this. And if what i'm hearing about A20 is true, DMT-based mods are gonna be even easier to install.

TFP has said that Steam workshop WILL be added. After Gold. So.........rather useless topic now.

We could talk about whether it will be:

Gold - Workshop - Console Port

vs

Gold - Console Port - Workshop.....

honestly this 1 option is safer : well console port is quiet risky - you know diffrent types of bugs for example

I remember my first mods on this game. People said we couldn't do it. TFP had the XML's encrypted. In the assets file. Things were tough back then. A lot of people have made it easier.

Okay...they have other priorities right now because the time isn't right for workshop support for the reasons I mentioned. The game can still be modded and those who truly want the mods can figure out how to get the mods they want and so the devs won't spend time on workshop support until after the game is done because they believe that it is good enough the way it is now. With almost eight years of people successfully creating mods and playing with mods, I'd say they are correct and that the game is doing just fine and having a good life with the current placeholder modding system until the developers are ready to do official workshop integration.

<shrug> I said "up" so you felt obligated to forcefully say "down!"
That is like saying we lived without electricity so long we can do it even longer...

I have mixed feelings on easy to use mods. On one hand it's great, no headaches, jump right in and away you go. But on the other hand mod troubleshooting develops marketable skills. Being able to figure out which mod i screwed up based off of when the errors are showing up on game load has been useful in my work. Understanding how xml works becoming more important now. It's getting complicated out there, and muddling through unity issues has taught me quite a bit.
Looks like someone was confused by why i think modding is important. Have some nightmare fuel.

Garland thought it would be an easy fix. She asked each student where they’d saved their project. Could they be on the desktop? Perhaps in the shared drive? But over and over, she was met with confusion. “What are you talking about?” multiple students inquired. Not only did they not know where their files were saved — they didn’t understand the question.
This was an astrophysics class.

It's more to have a central place to get mods from and vote on the best of all time. Yes the supereasy click-to-install function is great but I personally don't have any problems installing mods to my game, it's probably as easy as it could possibly get already, without some kind of dedicated mod manager.

I'm looking forward to a time when Steam Workshop has things like quest packs that you can download 50 trader quests with interesting little mini-stories behind them that will help to flesh out the world. "My sister needs baby formula for my new niece, please help us survivor", "my best friend went missing in X biome, find him alive or bring back his satchel if he's dead", things like that.

I've never really understood this. Why does the game ever have to be "done"? Keep putting features in until the end of time.
Sorry…I should have said that once their obligation to the original Kickstarter promises is complete and they have finished replacing all placeholder assets and features with final polished versions, then they will continue to update the game with extra goodies until the end of time.

One of those extra goodies will be Steam Workshop support.

Better?
