I miss:

LBD (hate the magazines)

Old clothing and armor

Jars

Planting directly in the ground using a hoe and fertilizer

Old patchwork RWG biomes even if unrealistic

Plains biome

Looting and disposing of corpses

Less frequent screamers

There's probably a lot more that I can't think of right now.

I somewhat miss corpes but they were a pain too clean

I do miss the old armor system but only the cloths

If we had both cloths and the new armor then I Don't think people would be upset.

Like imagine mixing althete armor with a sweat shirt or bdu

I don't miss jars cuz it made water too easy. But they could have done it in a different way.

Like maybe the water from rivers was no nasty and radioactive that you needed drugs just to make it murky. Or a chemistry set

I Miss
the feeling of desolation
spartan layout in and out of POIs
the tac tac toe menu, for crafting, that you had to figure out and remember
rabbit on a stick, don't know why but I just miss it
sticks to planks to logs for building, I grew up with Linkin Logs
7 aesthetic biomes
feeling lost, and rewarded for anything I discovered
feeling of foreboding, just in walking around
the it is what it is application for arms and weapons "found or made upgrades made a difference not a number"
not having calculators all over the screen by default.
screen overlays that indicated your condition.
surviving vs hoarding
the mini map, just because it was arcadie; also because if you were at a weak point seeing a little green moving dot change
from green to yellow to red as it got closer meant something.

the ai for the hornet because it was relentless, it was not like feral sense, it just fit in the game as an Ahhh not again,
like a slow slender man with wings.

I miss hearing a pack of dogs in the middle of the night

finding mostly junk,
fear that night would bring, the ambient sounds
Atlas access
biome specific resources, and recipes that included them
Biome LUTS
Armor upgrages that were dependant on materials, not colored numbers
Most of all I miss not knowing what I was doing and having to test to see the outcome
zombie running in dark area, and slow in light

Then It was just a different atmosphere

Don't miss
gamma washout
water cubes
deer animation
collapsing structures because of stability

Now it is just a different atmosphere

There is more but that's why I mod.

Things I Miss...

...Old Iron Sights. The weird style at the moment where the barrel feels like it's 45 degrees to the screen just feels weird.

...Old Screamer Heat System, the current system is more a nuisance than a challenge.

...Wolves At Night In Green Biome. My brother never used the tacker perk and never thought of Wolves as a food source. He prioritised me for a crossbow soon as that became clear.

...Throwing my Spear! Really wish this was back in the game - not modded or anything.

Things I Don't Miss...

...whatever Alpha it was (16ish?) that was the Starvation Simulator. A lot of my brother's friends who made up the server stopped playing at this point.

...Glass Jars. Really, glad not to have tons of these in my inventory anymore. Dew collectors have really been great idea, especially with the added mods.

...Blunderbuss. It looked weird and worked badly, but it was something you ended up finding or making and using and it often got you injured.

Define "old?

I miss water jars, or the mechanic to get a container into a body of water and come up full, you know so people don't go off half cocked about the jars themselves.... Besides drinking murky water from hand.

I miss:

Jen's labcoat

Screamers not spawning so goddamned often without cooldown (20 minute cooldown my ass).

Things I don't miss:

Not having to play Magazine Subscription - The Movie

I have been playing a lot of Skyrim lately, and I love the better by doing combined the ability to learn by training.

The ultimate system for 7d2d for me would be better by doing + a magazine to skip the rest of the xp needed for that level. This would give you a lot more "influence" over your character I think.

Thought of one more. I miss zombies that didn't stumble forward at high speed from a right to left swing at the head with a sledgehammer(or any weapon really). Anyone know a mod that gets rid of that?

That constantly moving forward thing is weird. Just means you're constantly moving backward. Moonwalk simulator!

At the same time: these are zombies. A souls-like combat system wouldn't exactly work in a game with nothing but braindead zombies to fight. They have to have something that actually poses a threat, though that's the only something they've got in my experience. I wouldn't know how to make combat more interesting, so constantly moving foward to melee hit and backward to avoid flicks of the wrist and slow arm swings it is. Forward-backward, forward-backward. Not the most exciting or martially artistic footwork, but what are you going to do?

There are quite a few decent mechanics employed in the zombie genre, stuns, leaps, grabs; the environment could be "actually hazardous" like those fire spouts debuffing you with heat for a few mins even after you switch it off, spitter goos becoming slippery/sticky etc etc. You can get pretty complicated with simple things, without even going for mystical healer auras from nurse zeds.

And yeah, the game already has stuns and leaps, but both seem completely trivial in effect - the frogs don't even hit you when they leap, and a stun is a problem only if already completely crowded and thus in trouble as is.

The stumbling forward is so annoying. Especially when you hit a Crawler and it just teleports forward. Not to mention the lurching can suddenly turn a perfect point-blank headshot for your gun to a complete and utter miss because the zombie just happens to move its head at the last second.

That constantly moving forward thing is weird.
I have always attributed it to the fact that they are in a state of constant forward momentum towards their goal. It's much different than two humans in melee combat. You would square off and wait for an opportunity. A zombie just has 1 goal. EAT YOU... self preservation isn't part of their rule set.

Hmm, just a random thought - I hate the stumble forward as much as the next guy, but I get why it would be a mechanic. To give a bit of challenge for melee. But at the moment it "just sucks", as in there's no upside to it for the player.

Would it be easier to tolerate if the zeds would actually trip over at the end of it (either always, or when they failed to hit you). That might be a nice trade off - and kinda follow the logic of "stumbling forward" .. they've lost their balance, might get a swipe in due to the relentlessness of a zedhead, but they're about to land on their face.

I DO NOT MISS:

- The crappy janky old armor and clothes, except the fact we had 5 armor parts instead of 4, but everything else looks 100 times better in V1.

- Empty jars

- Empty cans

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE AGAIN (I never played with that but looks interesting):

- Having separate armor/cloth for upper body and lower body = 5 armor pieces instead of 4.

- More of the old zombie models, maybe with some rework to make them look a little nicer, although we have many of them back in some mods/overhauls already.

- Learning by doing. The same, we have it back in some mods, but still would be nice with proper balance in base game.
