The use of AI assets needs to be disclosed on the Steam page for the game

Steam requires developers to disclose the use of generative AI on the games being sold there. I've looked at the steam store page for 7dtd and couldn't find that disclosure there.

Regardless of whether you think using AI assets is a problem or not, not disclosing it infringes Steam's policy.

The picture in this post is an example of asset created by AI present in the current build of the game.

Personally not bothered by the use of AI in that case, nor really the non-disclosure of it (such a small thing, who cares); but I am deeply upset about the horrifying waste of texture space for that level of detail :)

The thing is, not disclosing it infringes Steam's policy on AI. The game can get in trouble with Steam.

Grandma's "thumb" is a bit disturbing...
Lol yeah. It's the definition of AI slop.

I don't think anyone cares about Steam's rules.
Heh, at this point I care about Steam's rules more than I care about the survival of this game on steam.

But it's a simple disclosure statement, essentially "just tick the box" -exercise; they'll get it sorted the moment an official warning rolls in.

Go hire a lawyer if you care so much.
I mean, Steam cares lol

This is so incredibly trivial 99% of players will never notice this. My position is who cares if this is AI. now if voice acting, player models, and textures were AI then we have a ploblem. This take is pure mountain out of a molehill IMO
It has to be disclosed on the steam store page, that's on the steam guidelines for developers.

This really is trivial. If you have a problem with it, talk to Steam and they'll decide if it's worth asking TFP to add the statement. That is something between Steam and TFP. No one else has any reason to worry about it.

i noticed right away and one of my friends did too. at least from the standpoint of an artist some of these were pretty blatant and weird

I looked more into the AI content policy for Steam. There are two categories - pre-generated and live generation. Pre-generated AI work just needs to be confirmed that it isn't illegal, not infringing on copyrights, and consistent with marketing materials. This is the same process already underway at Steam for any game development work.

The live generation one is the category that must be reported to gamers as it has the potential of generating illegal content after the game has been reviewed by Steam. So the OP is incorrect that TFP are violated Steam's policies regarding AI content by not disclosing it to the players.

That website mentions it must be consistent with your marketing material (which means you have to disclose the use of AI on your marketing material, in the store page, regardless of whether it's illegal content or not. It's like adult content: you have to disclose it).

Everyone who pointed me to that website with the same argument you are trying to place here failed to read that paragraph as a whole and understand it.

Either way, I hope TFP disclose it properly and don't risk getting in trouble with Steam. It's not worth it. If TFP think it's ok to use AI assets in the game, they shouldn't have a problem with disclosing it in the steam store page.
