PC The recent changes to Trader Jen's model and the 1.0 trader voice changes.

I have no idea why Trader Jen's model was reworked but the new face TFP have created looks fake, it looks like Jen is a badly crafted "realistic" mannequin, the face looks like it's bulging out too much in some places and covered with cheap, shiny plastic. There was nothing wrong with the previous model, it did not need to be changed, and I think it should be reverted.

Now - about the changes to Trader Joel's voice from 2024. Given the huge amount of negative posts and videos about it I cannot imagine why nothing has been done to revert or fix it in the vanilla game yet. It was so poorly received by players that mods were made to revert to the old Joel voice lines. At least TFP knew enough to keep the Jen and Rekt voice actors when they did the 1.0 trader voice overhaul but the others that were reworked didn't go over all that well with players either. Plenty of players complained about the Hugh and Bob voice reworks. After hearing the bulk of the voice lines over the past year or so it is very hard to believe that this is how TFP actually want the traders to sound. I simply don't see how anyone at TFP thought the "new" Joel, Hugh, and Bob voice lines, the inflections, the tone, and the overall delivery were all okay for every line when they obviously aren't. In any case the voice direction is likely to blame, not the voice actors themselves, and someone at TFP gave all of it the stamp of approval so they're on the hook for this problem as well.

I would imagine TFP won't revert these unnecessary, unwanted changes that no one asked for and that practically no one is happy with but I write this here today hoping that they will.

Yeh, NeoJen is quite the let down... funnily enough, I wouldn't really mind that model as a new character, especially with some touch-ups. But as a replacement of the old one, it's just straight up worse. And with the ongoing weird political uglification of women in video games, the change inherits a stench I despise. Whether it was done to appease that mob, or not.

the voice direction is likely to blame
Sort of. TFP obviously had very different ideas of these characters in mind than either their visual appearance or original voice lines/delivery would suggest. Joel's, especially, doesn't suit the way he looks at all, imo. The actor's voice performance is good, but he seems to have been directed to sound like a naive used car salesman and given voice new lines that sound like advertisements for same. His performance might better be paired with a completely new vendor. The old voice performance was heavy on the Clint Eastwood and fit the model, but the voice actor wasn't available to record the new lines. Bob sounds younger and more inexperienced than he looks, but the African American actor did a great job getting the L4D, Ellis-like accent and inflection just perfect. And Hugh? Well, let's just say he'd come off as actually a bit on the insane side if not for the constant (and annoying) hissing through the teeth sound.

As far as Jen is concerned, I think the model has just been de-aged too much. Her face is too round and pudgy, making her look too young for the voice coming out of her mouth, imo. Rekt is Rekt and ever the case shall be.

TFP obviously got the performances and models they had in mind, so that's going to be the NPCs' characters, like it or not. What I won't hear of is that people are just too used to the old voice performances; are resistant to change; just need time to become accustomed to them; or whatever. Um, no. They just don't fit, not necessarily the different ways TFP and players have imagined them, but the look of their models and textures, imo. As the lines and performances are in the can, so to speak, I wouldn't expect them to change or the actors to be reassembled in a recording studio. Everyone's been scheduled; everyone's been paid; and TFP is just not going to do that all over again, I wouldn't think. It wouldn't make good business sense, even if the characters would make more sense sounding like they look from the perspective of what I gather is a great deal of the player community.

The trader Jen model was the only one that didn't receive a recent overhaul. When you do a side-by-side, you can see that her quality wasn't quite the same as the others.

My personal opinion, which may be unpopular, is one of praise for the new model. I think she's beautiful and more realistic than she was before.

I like Jen's new model. She just needs her lab coat back.

what gets me is being upsold DLC before I even get to the trader counter lol

finish the game first fellas. I know you don't need cash to fund development. You are million$ copies sold already.
Isn't Joel the only trader upselling DLC outfits, with just one voice line? I'm not a fan either, but as he's the armor guy, it makes sense it'd be him.

It is a better model. No doubt about that. Just looks way younger than the voice coming out of her mouth, imo. Less roundness in the face/slightly more pronounced features there, she'd be perfect. Good job, as always.

I don't think he was intended to be upselling. That hoarder outfit was just cut along with a few others to separate them out for sale. He just happens to mention it. Maybe should have cut out one he didn't mention. ;) None of that goes over with me at all, though.
