The old removed clothing should make a return as cosmetic options in vanity system.

Just as the title says I think that all the old removed clothing looks should be added to the new vanity system so that people who want to walk around in those looks can do so and are not forced to look like one of the armor sets.

This idea came to me when a friend of mine mentioned he missed the old clothing and he felt it was more immersive. I thought that was silly since you're basically expecting a t-shirt to stop zombie bites or bear attacks, but after thinking about it I realized it prolly wouldn't take too much dev time to add it into the current vanity system. This would add back in alot more variety of player looks to the game and make a fair amount of people happy, hopefully with minimal dev time required. Should be a win win situation, theoretically anyways lol.

The only difficulty is that the old system had more changeable parts, leading to massive variation - if just straight up implemented as separate outfits in the current system.
Hoodie + jeans, hoodie + skirt, hoodie + shorts, hoodie + suit pants, hoodie + no pants
T-shirt + jeans ...
Wool shirt + jeans ...
Tank top + jeans ...
And on top of that, to multiply it all.. armors.
Possible? Maybe. Lots of work though.

Yeah, that's not worth the effort. But they could consider adding a limited number of cosmetics using the old styles. So not hoodie + jeans and hoodie + skirt and hoodie + shorts and so on, but just hoodie + jeans and t-shirt plus skirt and so on... one set per clothing item (as much as possible since I don't know if there were equal numbers of tops and bottoms). It wouldn't make people happy who want a specific combination if that combination isn't available, but it would give some options for those who want those styles.

Or they could do all of the combinations in a large DLC that has a higher cost due to the work involved in making all of those. I'm sure there would be a lot of veteran players, and even some newer players, who would pay $20 or whatever to have access to those as cosmetics.

I would definitely not sell any of it as DLC, but yes any additional cosmetics with maybe more eventually, from the old sets would be better than none IF implementing them all would be significant dev work.

All of that would have to be created from scratch though since it was UMA stuff and they made all new character models. That would be a lot of work. They do seem keen on adding more stuff with variety though, as seen from the twitch drop stuff being normal clothing. So who knows, maybe we'll eventually have it, or at least something close.

But again, it isn't as simple as just grabbing the assets and plopping them in. They would have to be completely remade, so certainly not "minimal dev time" as you suggest.

Someone wrote a mod for Fallout 4 that allowed you to turn all those armor pieces invisible so you could wear the nonprotective outfits without clipping issues if you wished. I don't remember, but I think it was the same mod author who introduced a paint system for the armor. So, you could paint it or just make it invisible.

Makes much more sense for a multiplayer game. Obviously, most won't want their avatar to look like every other and the few armor sets introduced don't really achieve that, thouogh it does open the door to microtransactions. FO76 went absolutely nuts with that. You turn around and see some dude (or dudess) in pink power armor with doughnut sprinkles on top and think, "Oh, well. There goes my immersion. Darn you, Bethesda."

Would probably be great in moderation. The mod authors can go nuts. :)

It doesn't actually need to be created entirely from scratch. In fact, many of the zombies already wear clothing that resembles old clothing. They could use this as a base and create variations with different textures.

For example, the MoPower cappy and the shirt seem to be based on the desert gear.
