PC The lockpick system needs an overhaul

Lockpicking doors has generally said to not be an upcoming thing by the devs. It would totally break the intended path thru dungeons.

I can see that reasoning. But I also think some doors could be picked, while other doors are "barred form the other side" so the intended path stays intact unless you want to beat down the door. Not really a high priority in my opinion though.

While I dislike minigames almost as much as the next guy, I'd still take any minigame over the current implementation; stare at a container in a UI-freeze for 15-20 seconds, and then break a random amount of lockpicks at the end. One by one. It manages to combine the worst of both worlds, wastes as much time as a minigame would and doesn't even give me anything to actively do.

Sure, it's not a big deal, at least as one can swap to the steel picks for now; but I'd love an update to the mechanic if the "you can only get the loot in this container via lockpicking"-part is ever implemented.

.....

As the doors, walls and everything else in the game is destructible it certainly does not break anything.  It would just allow the silent player to do this as well to a limited extent.

Please no minigame. Minigames suck. They suck hard. Every time. No matter wich game. Haven´t seen an enjoyable non frustrating minigame in over 20 years of gaming.
One in fallout 4/76 is not too bad. move pin to spot, hold A to turn and unlocked, can unlock highest tier stuff in 1 pick if your lucky. At most I break 2-3 and its MUCH faster than it is in 7dtd.

Steel picks? You mean pickaxe? or is there a new type of lockpick that doesn't break?

Yeah he meant the steel pickaxe. Will smash right through any safe...and your stamina if you don't have the right perks.

I have to disagree with you there. I Ioved the lock pick mini games in Return to Krondor, Oblivion, Skyrim, and Dying Light.

I'm just glad that we have lock picks at all. We fought hard to get them.

Agreed. Did dying light have lock picking? Man it's been so long since I've played that I can't remember how it went.

It only needs 1 change, and that is for chances to fail to always be at one second intervals, and for lockpicks to advance at minimum 1s.

This would mean that with 15 lockpicks you are essentially guaranteed to open a safe no matter what, and thats if you are incredibly unlucky.

Change the perk to reduce the time to pick by 4s per perk level, you wont need to increase chances for the pick to succeed since you will cut out 4 possible fails per attempt, till you get all 3 and only have 2 chances to fail.

I think the real problem is that lock picks aren't exactly common and you can't craft them until you have 7/7 books for the Great Heist. Lock picks aren't terribly technical items and there's no reason it should require special knowledge to craft them, imo.

You mean you need the 7th book from that series or all 7 in total? I can make lockpicks now & I don't have all 7 of those books, I think I have 2 volumes of great heist.

I can't remember if it was from one of those or I found an actual schematic for lockpicks.

I just remember seeing I can now craft lockpicks & was like "hell yeah"!

Hmmmm, I never checked if I could craft them because the text says that ability to craft picks is the reward for reading all 7 books.   So if you can craft them without the books, I'd say thats a bug.

I'll have to check to verify but I'm very sure I only have 2 of those books. Unless like I said I may have found an actual schematic for it....or was the 1st perk under lockpicking....? Sh*t, I'll have to check. Yeah, could be a bug.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that I spend several (in-game) hours digging up a treasure chest, then proceed to break FIFTEEN lockpicks on it, and end up having to then smash it open.
Man I ran into this the other day, was totally unprepared! Forgot reading that the treasure maps chests were now locked and I only had 3 lockpicks on me. Of course every one of the sons of @%$*#!es broke & I had to get in the old fashioned way with a damn tier 2 stone axe....FML!!
