From A17 On I miss:
log spikes
checking remains of zombies for loot
getting better items by combining them
old mining (harder mining) techniques
Boulders giving more resources like ore and nitrate
better farming
That's all I can think of, however the good things are too long to list.

I started a new game 6 times since Alpha 17, I cannot say that about the multiple hundreds of games I played since 1988.
Thief 1 & 2
F.E.A.R. First encounter Assault recon
Half Life 2
Are runners up.
I think for me its the gathering materials to build a massive base. Without base building I would not plays it.
