I've seen people say this a lot over the years, but I've had over 100 trees growing next to my base in multiple games and never noticed any performance problems. It's probably similar to people saying that having a lot of zombies on horde night causes performance problems and yet even before the cut zombies in half, I could play an 8 player horde night with everyone in the same base and never had any issues. And I don't have a great computer at all... it's getting close to 10 years old. Perhaps that's related to specific settings or specific hardware?Trees actually have a problematic FPS impact. Just plant a lot of them directly beside your base and you can see the FPS drop. In some older alphas the trees had even more polygons and you could really tank your game into oblivion.
Anyhow, yeah... it does seem that trees affect some players. But there are ways they could do it without any significant performance cost. Maybe if players built 20+ chicken coops it would become a problem, but most aren't going to... why bother unless they just want to do it "because they can"? But at that point, you're developing the game based on outliers instead of the majority of players and that's not really necessary, imo.
