The "chicken coop" is a joke

Trees actually have a problematic FPS impact. Just plant a lot of them directly beside your base and you can see the FPS drop. In some older alphas the trees had even more polygons and you could really tank your game into oblivion.
I've seen people say this a lot over the years, but I've had over 100 trees growing next to my base in multiple games and never noticed any performance problems. It's probably similar to people saying that having a lot of zombies on horde night causes performance problems and yet even before the cut zombies in half, I could play an 8 player horde night with everyone in the same base and never had any issues. And I don't have a great computer at all... it's getting close to 10 years old. Perhaps that's related to specific settings or specific hardware?

Anyhow, yeah... it does seem that trees affect some players. But there are ways they could do it without any significant performance cost. Maybe if players built 20+ chicken coops it would become a problem, but most aren't going to... why bother unless they just want to do it "because they can"? But at that point, you're developing the game based on outliers instead of the majority of players and that's not really necessary, imo.

I don't want devs wasting their time adding completely new features just to show ■■■■ chickens in a coop. If they wanna just grab the chicken prefab with its looping idle animation and plop one or two inside the coop, fine. Anything past that is just unnecessary. Seems since 2.5 happened everyone thinks if they do a bunch of whining TFP will listen to them. And of course now with 3.0, everybody think everything should just be an optional setting. TFP have to draw lines somewhere or they'll never get the other features added.
I'm just offering my suggestions on what it could be like. To me, the chicken coop isn't even that important, but I didn't know it was just going to be a simple collection station why waste the devs' time on a bunch of stupid chickens? I don’t think I’m wasting anyone’s time.

Who said it has to be an option? The options and the minigame are the work of TFP. Besides, the options aren’t bad—it’s better than having to put up with the changes they make, and you can customize it to your liking, I don't see the problem with the options.

This absolutely was a problem for me years ago.... but I haven't seen an impact from trees in a very long time. I wonder if this is one of those things that people just keep repeating without actually testing if its still true?

Sleepers don't work like that. The game makes every effort that sleepers are spawned in before you can see them or in your back. You can't do that with a coop except if you make it so big that the chickens can all spawn on the backside of it
I'm pretty sure that some sleepers appear right in front of you, less than 2 meters away. That's kind of what I mean.

Yeah, they do. Not often, but they do. It all depends on what the POI looks like and how easy it is to hide them appearing. TFP usually does a good job hiding them, though. Of course, the "new" min-script option to spawn zombies (often used in 1x1 locations) spawns them directly in front of you if you're looking... repeatedly. You end up sitting there watching them spawn and killing them one by one until they stop spawning.
