The "chicken coop" is a joke

Wait.... you think we're actually building the playset from scratch and choosing to make it look that way? Don't you think its FAR more likely that we are finding something in the world that can easily be repurposed into a chicken coop?
Out of curiosity anyone know what materials are needed for one? I would expect a massive discount of materials then.

Not that this is the issue, but rather that it doesn't fit with other work related items. It's out of place. This isn't Grounded 2.

Why would you make something we have wanted in game for years a cartoonish version of what you already have in game at the Animal Horders POI?

It's just so silly and cartoonish. It doesn't fit the vibe of the game at all. WHY would you do this? NO ONE would make something this colorful and silly.

PLEASE give us a REAL chicken coop like a normal human would make. NO ONE would make this plastic Fisher Price joke of a chicken coop.

Is this what happens when you sell your game to BI? It has to morph into some cartoonish version of itself so you can sell us a real chicken coop skin later? I just can't understand the design philosophy behind this. It is SO OUT OF PLACE compared to literally EVERYTHING else in game.
The house we moved into a couple years ago literally (the correct use of the term) had an old kids playhouse as a chicken coop.

but taking a bunch of plastic and molding it into a kids playset item just seem STUPID in my opinion. You would make it more functional and have a much better design if you were actually making it.
You realize that if you craft a suppressor it costs the same materials no matter the gun you put it on, right? So you craft one and put it on a weapon that uses a soda can as the suppressor, doesn't that seem like a "STUPID" thing to do as well? Why wouldn't you just make a real, proper suppressor that would realistically work better than a can? Oh, right...because it's a game. Rule of cool and all that.

I guess they were inspired from these diy coops from pinterest?

Not to play devils advocate but you have a point. Half of the skins are out of place like pirate, evil knight and Christmas. I’m glad we can use cosmetics as the nerd set was too goofy to use before.
TBH thee only one i hate is the Hell night armor!

the rest i don't mind!, i would rock a pirate outfit in the apocalypses

They're so cute though 😭
i agree with you! IN FACT in a few years if i get chickens i will do this

The zombie apocalypse should be gritty, correct. But why should stuff you build be gritty as well? Do people in an apocalypse think: "Oh, the world has collapsed, I can't use yellow paint anymore! Everything I build must be depressingly gray now!"

Do horror films show only horror? Most of them show how the horror slowly creeps into very normal reality. You don't need to turn down light for 90 minutes to make a horror movie.

Mad Max movies may not have shown a single clean item (except for the hair of the actors), but that is just a choice.

In 7D2D the remnants of civilization are still there, there are toaster and even running laptops and PCs standing around. Why would there not be paint and a cheesy hen house around? Why would the survivor you play not have a desire to make his home look good? Why would the existence of zombies make him automatically dress and act like a zombie or run around like a homeless person when he just built a "home"?

Painted would be fine... as long as it isn't garish or you can choose the paint. But consider this... you are out salvaging scrap to use to build everything around your base. You have a ton of wood and metal available. What are you going to use to build things? Wood and metal. Even if you consider that you also have plastic available, that generally isn't going to be the best option for building a lot of things, but you could still use it. But that chicken coop isn't something a player built... not really. They just take a whole playhouse and added stuff to it, so it isn't using your plastic scrap.

So what makes more sense? Using all the materials that you have been salvaging all along to build things or take time to search for playhouses to convert into a chicken coop? Sure, there are those people who would do something weird like that even in dangerous times just to be funny. But what would most people do if they were living in this kind of world? Look at the pile of wood and metal that would very easily make a good quality chicken coop and decide, nope... I'm going to go find a bunch of playhouses and make a bunch of chicken coops out of those instead? I doubt it.

And even most of those who might decide to be "funny" by making one with a playhouse wouldn't make multiple that way... it would be something they do once for the "fun" of it and then they'd use their salvage materials to build decent ones afterwards. Yes, you might still have a percentage of people who would keep using playhouses, but can you really say that it's something very many would do when they already have all that salvage of wood and metal and other resources sitting right there that they've been building all the rest of their stuff out of?

If TFP wanted to have players build stuff like this, it would have been better as either an alternate recipe or else decorative items that they can build. I can certainly see someone using various items they find to make decorations far more easily than this. And I doubt anyone (or no more than a couple) would object to that.

How It Could Have Been

That is so very much better. I would probably design it to look more like it's built with scrap, but I would have no issue with this as it is either.

First of all, who says using a playhouse as a chicken coop is "funny"? Seems more like utilizing resources that are available. Second, who says we're taking time searching for playhouses? As I'm sure you recall, there are lots of abstractions in this game.... perhaps a bunch of the scrap polymer you have are playhouses you haven't broken down yet?

Repurposing things you find in the world feels 100% on brand, IMO.

I am with @Riamus on this. I think he's just trying to get people to see that it makes no sense that with all the tires and blue barrels you busted up...you decided to somehow pour your self a playhouse to turn into chicken coop? There are how many varieties of Thick 44 flags? but, he can't get an alternate chicken coop?

It might make more sense if you had to raid a poopy pants daycare, or a backyard playset, to liberate your chicken coop. (imo)

Meanwhile my issue if it not matching the other production themed buildings. The colors are indeed jarring yo look at for me.

Perhaps if it looked more used than if it was freshly built out of the box. Throw some leaves and vines over top with some dried dirt and grime and mute the colors a bit by using grime, leaves, vines, and/or dirt.
