Teragon - Random Map Generator

Got another question. I was combining the Preview Map, Biome Map and Height Map in Photoshop using transparent layers on top of one an other and I noticed I had to, not rotate but flip the Height Map vertically to match up with the other maps. Is this going to be an issue in game? Should I flip all Height Maps that are created?

Sorry to keep bugging you guys, but I have not used Tergon for 1 1/2 years. So I am still learning.
As I mentioned on discord, the game uses different rotations and mirroring for different maps for some reason. Whatever you get from Teragon is correct unless you have changed the default rotation and mirroring settings.

Could you please possibly upload this somewhere else besides discord for those of us who don't use discord? I don't like discord or have any use for it but last week I was going to cave and create an account just to download this. I went through hell and back for a good 45-60 minutes, and I still can't sign in to my account because it wanted a phone number for verification and apparently my recycled phone number was already used on someone else's account before I even got my "new" number 3 years ago. So I have no way of even creating an account on discord, even if I wanted to.

All you do is create an account using a different email address.  Teragon's Discord doesn't require a phone number for verification.  And it doesn't even need a "real" email, so long as you can check it for the verification.  Just make a temporary email from some free email service.  You can then never use it again, if you don't want to.  Right now, Pille wants to keep the initial download on Discord.  Once downloaded, all updates are automatic and don't need you to go to Discord again if you don't want to, though the help you can get there is worth it, imo.

Yes, but that's the thing. I can't create an account on discord. I have never had a discord account and so the email I was using was new. I have several throw away email accounts but discord wants a phone verification and when I tried with my number it said it was already used.

I respect his decision. It's his right. I suppose I can try it again tho with another email. Thanks.

Ok, nevermind. Created another account with a different email and discord didn't ask for a phone number this time.

Version 0.51.2 is now available.  Although a small update, this offers a valuable new feature.  You can now enable and disable multiple commands at once, as well as move multiple commands at once.  Use Shift to select multiple commands in a single block, or Ctrl to selection multiple commands that are spread out.  Click the new checkbox near the D/C/R buttons on the right of the Command Queue to enable/disable the selected commands.  Use the arrow buttons to move the selected commands up or down (these aren't new, but previously only moved one command at a time).

I used preset 5 to create an awesome map, the only issue that I have is the large files size of 1.7 gb.  It would take way too long for players on my server to download that file-size, other than that I love the updates and results of using this program. Keep up the great work.

Many of these files are only used by Teragon (mainly for storing intermediate results). So the server wouldn't send those files to the players. The World Generator 5 maps have about the same size as 9K vanilla maps (~150 MB), without the redundant files.

If you don't want them for use in creating more maps or editing your map, you can delete all of the temporary heightmaps.  You don't need the heightmaps named after biomes or the heightmap named merged.  You only need the dtm heightmap.  The others can be nice to keep as you can reuse them without having to spend the time to regenerate them again, if you like them.  But they aren't used by the game and don't need to be placed on the server or shared with anyone else.

Hello All.

I have downloaded Teragon and have started to learn to use it.  I am short on time these days, so I'm not able to devote the time I need to learn properly.  In the meantime I was wondering if there is someone I could talk to about possibly making a map for me.  I have seen maps (that I am assuming are made with Teragon) of NYC, Ireland, and the Iberian Peninsula.  I am hoping I can find someone to make me a map of my location.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Teragon is mainly for making random maps, though you can import a heightmap and work from there.  Doing so requires a lot of effort because most real world heightmaps are 8 bit instead of 16 bit, requiring a lot of manual work to smooth out the Minecraft terrain that 8 bit creates.  You might find someone to make that for you, but it isn't a simple thing.  You will be best off asking for help in a map making or modding discord channel, where there is a faster chance of someone who will help you with that.  They may or may not use Teragon with the real world heightmap, depending on their preferences, but that doesn't really matter.  But perhaps someone reading this thread will help.

Thank you so much for the quick reply.  I really appreciate it and I will certainly take your advice.  Oh and I am going to start watching your videos on Teragon as well.  Thanks again.

Good luck and I hope you find someone who can help you out.  If you find my tutorial videos helpful, feel free to subscribe so you know when new videos are added.  I've been getting a new video at least about once a week, but I don't know if I'll maintain that pace for long.  But I'll keep adding more as I have time and try to hit topics that can be confusing or not known.  For everything else, the help text is a great way to learn how to use each command.  And the Help Center tab has additional documentation besides just the help text for the commands.

With the recent update V.1.2 what will the version number need to be set to?

I changed the number on a previous map to what was suggested and got the following error.

EXC Version number '1.2.999' is invalid. Line 1, position 16.

You need V in there.  See the example in the Initial Setup and just change the number to match, while keeping the rest as-is.

If that doesn't work for some reason, let me know and I'll take a look, though you could also copy it from any RWG map.  Also, you can leave it as the 1.1 version and it would will work fine.

I was able to edit the .xml file and changed a previous version to a current version with V.1.2.27 and it accepted it.   :)

Using the full version, with the V as you show there should work (V.1.2.999).  I'll test it out later to see.  Because your write listed it without the V, that is likely the issue.  Otherwise, they changed the warning from earlier versions to an error, which is an odd change.

I know that a V.1.1.999 map works fine on 1.2, as that is what I'm using in my game.  So it doesn't really make sense that it won't work with the V.1.2.999.

That means you haven't created a water map with that name (my water map) prior to using whatever command is giving that error.

If the water map is optional in that command, you can remove it, otherwise you can create the water map before using that command.
