Systems Tier List

Shure. I'd like the game to make players look at the world. Maybe learn some IRL navigation skills while at it. "Point your cursor at the exclamation point, crash into lead nodes and swear under you breath" seems way too common in at least the youtuber population. Doesn't help when the marker itself blocks vision.. :)

Instead of "open map, check for a road to follow, drive in the world", you know. "Turn left at that place, was it water works..?"
YouTubers and streamers do things that are dumb to get views. That wouldn't change no matter what is done with the game.

Anyhow, if we are going to talk about real life, a lot of people these days use GPS. They could add that, where it shows your path, but I'm sure you wouldn't want that either. 😏

It still is something that could be a game option easily enough. No reason it should be forced on people.

How sure are you? I wouldn't mind a GPS, at all. Just depends on the implementation; but at that point I wouldn't mind it bringing in even HUD elements for navigation - I doubt we'd get a realistic voice navigation in the game, although that would prolly be sick.

Now, is the GPS constellation still being adjusted and thus operational, who knows..? ;) Could be an interesting quirk, it's not what it used to be, gets you to 1-500 meters of target.

Nothing wrong in any of that.

But next time you're beelining towards a target and looking at the counter slowly falling, ask yourself "would it be more engaging if this thing here wasn't grabbing my attention?".

You Can pay attention to other things, but why would you? Why would the devs want you to pay attention to their world?

As for 'tubers doing stupid stuff for views; of course. Most of them usually cut out the travel anyway, because it's a boring "stare at a counter for a minute or two". Might as well give us a "ride" from the trader at that point, a sidecar motorcycle you can pay Rekkers a 100 dukes for to get teleported to your destination. Equally immersion generating.

You would like GPS, but the display on the compass is something you'd like to see go away?

As far as if I ask myself what would be more engaging, the only reason driving is at all engaging is when I decide to do something crazy like a large jump or I end up flipping or something. Otherwise, driving is just something I have to do to get where I am going so I can do something that is actually engaging. Having to use the map to find my way might "engage" me more, but it wouldn't be enjoyable to me.

Yeh. For the "compass marker / immersion" -angle: The GPS would likely be a later tier item, iron tier or some such. Giving players at least a chance at seeing the world unsullied, is better than giving them yellow paint all the way.

It's not unrealistic (if the system is still up and devices can be found).
It wouldn't necessarily be a yellow glowing path on the ground ahead of you, it might end up becoming a "display" you carry on your toolbelt, having it actively equipped giving the guide markers on the world; for example. Or a separate keybind.

I having nothing against the idea of navigation; just the yellow paint all over my face.

I like this idea, but it doesn't strike me as one that works for 7d2d. By the time I'm in late tier items I'm using the gyroplane, so a road-aware GPS would be unlikely to see any use.

Well, I said "iron tier"; but even if left as late as the gyro, it could offer things like ground speed display, target markers, maybe even a hud-map display; combine with some other flight mods like artificial horizon, altimeter and such and you can fly in the pitch black of the night.

Not even sure if I'd hope it to be "road-aware" as such, it all depends on the implementation.

But again, I was mainly talking against needlessly taking the players attention away from the actual world by artificial icons; adding tech like GPS would at least enable making that a bit more immersive.
